Cat Suffers Severe Frostbite After Being Left Outside on one of the Coldest Days

A 24 pound stray cat that was rescued by a family visiting their cottage after being left outside on of the coldest days of winters. The family, who saved the cat from the bitter cold elements, brought him to the Ontario SPCA Orillia Animal Centre.

Garfield (affectionately named by staff) was brought to the veterinary clinic where it was determined that he suffered frostbite on the pads of his feet, his ears and his nose.

'I suspected he had frostbite after checking on him for the second time. The coloring on his feet were changing, so I immediately made an appointment with the Vet Clinic', says Lori Burnett, Animal Care Coordinator at the Ontario SPCA Orillia Animal Centre.

Garfield will need to spend the night in the hospital due to dehydration and his frostbite. He requires an IV drip and further tests are being conducted to ensure his organs are not damaged due to exposure.

The Ontario SPCA wants to remind pet owners of the dangers of leaving your pet outside during cold temperatures. Thankfully, in Garfield's case, with proper care and treatment, he should make a full recovery.

Please take Garfield's story as a reminder to ensure the safety of your own pets during severe weather! You can help support Garfield and other animals like him in need of help!
