Seven Puppies Rescued & in Need of Urgent Care!

The Ontario SPCA Midland & District Animal Centre is currently caring for seven Husky mix puppies that were found with lice and very lethargic. The nursing puppies were discovered living in an underground den when an excavator was digging into the ground to relocate garbage and recycling areas. The mother of the puppies was frantic and abandoned them when the den was disturbed.

The 5-week-old puppies required immediate care as they were in rough shape. The lice infestation was so severe they had to have their entire coat shaved down.

The puppies, now named “Penny, Amy, Bernadette, Mary Cooper, Sheldon, Raj, and Leonard,” began improving in health and seemed to be in better spirits. However, the puppies were losing a lot of hair on their faces and had some very itchy sores. A veterinarian determined they suffered from Demodex Mange, an auto immune condition that will require a rigorous treatment plan.

The puppies are all on the road to recovery but the treatment and vet costs are expected to exceed $2,400. The Ontario SPCA Midland & District Animal Centre is looking to the community to help cover some of these costs for these seven beautiful puppies and other animals just like them!
