Back in June an Officer from the Ontario SPCA Orangeville & District Branch responded to a call from the local police who had found a young German Shepherd dog wandering around a McDonald’s parking lot.

The dog, known as Roxy, had a badly injured front leg that required immediate medical attention.
When our Officer went to pick Roxy up, her owner came forward. The owner told us that they were unable to transport Roxy to the veterinarian and were also unable to afford the care she required. As a result, Roxy was surrendered to the Ontario SPCA Orangeville & District Branch so that we could give her the care she needs.

Our Officer brought Roxy to the veterinarian for immediate care. The veterinarian told the Ontario SPCA that Roxy’s leg was required to be amputated since the injury appeared to have occurred days earlier. The veterinarian felt the complex surgery required to save the leg may have caused future problems for the dog and a lot more rehab.

The cost of treating Roxy’s broken leg and having it amputated is nearly $2,000.
