Giving Tuesday

Giving Tuesday is December 1, 2015 - a day where charities, companies and individuals join together to make a difference. Since Giving Tuesday is about giving back to community, we want to say a big thank you to all our supporters for helping us through the years.

It is thanks to you that we have been able to provide animal protection, rehabilitation and care; advocacy and humane education for the past 142 years. Your help makes a difference for thousands of animals each year.

Whether you choose to assist through the donation of a financial gift, event sponsorship, giving an animal a second chance, or volunteering your time, your support makes our work possible. Thank you for choosing to support the Ontario SPCA!

Keep an eye out on our social media channels for a special thank you video.

Timbit the Cat Cast Iron Frying Pans

"Timbit’s" Rescue & Recovery

On a cold November afternoon little "Timbit" arrived at the shelter badly in need of our help. A concerned citizen noticed this little cat scrounging for food by the dumpster behind a local coffee shop. This poor kitten was emaciated, covered in fleas, cold and hungry.

After much needed care, Timbit is expected to make a full recovery. In spite of a rough beginning Timbit is very affectionate, social and loving. She will make a wonderful addition to any family and we feel she would enjoy children and other pets as well.  Visit the Ontario SPCA Muskoka Animal Centre to meet her.

Cooking it up

This summer we thought we would try something new to raise some additional funds for shelter animals and promote safe cooking and recycling. So we ran a little project to see how many pieces old rusty dirty cast iron cookware we could get donated, refurbished and adopted into a new home.

We were able to raise close to $500 with this project and we had a lot of fun with it as well. Thanks to everyone who donated items, helped refurbish or purchased one of our masterpieces. We still have a couple of them available!

The Ontario SPCA is excited to announce the soon-to-be-launched Humane Education Program. The program has been designed with curriculum writers to utilize inquiry-led, play-based learning principles to support children in developing and maintaining positive relationships with pets.

Lesson plans and activities will engage students in learning age appropriate content, concepts and skills as they explore the relationships shared by people and their pets.  Teachers are encouraged to sign-up for more information.
