November 2015

It's been an eventful Fall thanks to our two signature events, the Annual Telethon and Around the World in 80 Spays Food Tasting & Auction , as well a special adoption case of Dixie and her house mate Harley. The months ahead are looking busy as well as we take part in iAdopt for the Holidays again this year, with our focus on getting more animals into loving homes.

Help Dixie Get Back to Health

This is our sweet Dixie. She came to the Ontario SPCA Leeds & Grenville Animal Centre through an investigation along with her house mate Harley. Dixie was in terrible condition when she arrived at the shelter and in need of urgent care. She was severely dehydrated, emaciated and flea infested.

Further assessment determined that Dixie’s teeth were in terrible shape, her hair and nails were completely overgrown, and she was also deaf. It was imperative for Dixie to undergo extensive surgery to extract four teeth and a tumour from her eyelid. Dixie’s cost of surgery and recovery will be upwards of $2,000, a necessary cost to get her back up to health and given a second chance at a forever home.

Please donate today to help Dixie and other animals just like her have the life they deserve.

It is thanks to you that we have been able to provide animal protection, rehabilitation and care; advocacy and humane education for the past 142 years. Your help makes a difference for thousands of animals each year.

Whether you choose to assist through the donation of a financial gift, event sponsorship, giving an animal a second chance, or volunteering your time, your support makes our work possible. Thank you for choosing to support the Ontario SPCA!

It’s inevitable. We live in Canada which means cold winter months are in the forecast. Whether you are planning to hibernate or excited to pull out the toque and gloves and bring your pet out for some cold weather fun, safety should always come first.

Enjoy a nice winter season with some cold weather safety tips.

"Jack” Gets a Second Chance

Poor “Jack” was found running at large on a staff member’s rural property. The Elizabethtown-Kitley Animal Control was contacted and Jack was brought into the Ontario SPCA Leeds & Grenville Animal Centre as we are the official pound for Elizabethtown-Kitley. Jack was put on the standard stray holding period, but sadly nobody came to claim this sweet boy.

Now homeless, Jack had to be put up for adopting in hopes he could get a second chance at a forever home. It didn’t take him long to charm Pauline, who fell in love with him instantly. Jack is now being doted on and living happily with his new family.

Adopting a Pet Pig - Is it for You?

When we think of pet adoption, we usually think of dogs and cats. But did you know that some unconventional pets like pigs make great house pets too?

Clancy and Miley Ray are here to help you decide whether adopting a non-conventional pet is right for you and if so, what needs to be considered first.
