Adopting a Pet for the Holidays

It’s the purrfect time to adopt during iAdopt for the Holidays. Until December 24th, we have lowered the adoption fee on all cats and kittens to $99 to help find as many felines forever homes before the holidays. The holidays are a great time to come together and add to your family.

The Ontario SPCA does not encourage giving pets as a surprise gift and should only occur when the recipient has shown a sustained interest in owning one, and has the ability to care for the pet responsibly. The Ontario SPCA's adoption team is trained to place the animal in their forever home. The Meet Your Match® program, run through our animal centres, is also a crucial element of this discussion.

Holiday Safety Tips

Holiday Safety Tips

The holiday season is a busy time for many us. Between shopping, decorating and having company over, pets can often feel just as overwhelmed as humans. It’s important to take precautions and keep them feeling safe and away from potential dangers like poinsettias which can be fatal if ingested.

There are many things you can do to make the holidays a happy and safe one for everyone.

Maxwell

Volunteer Andrew

Lost and Injured "Maxwell"

Back in early October, “Maxwell” lost his way and was roaming the streets when he was sadly hit by a car. Luckily, he was brought to a local veterinarian who determined that Maxwell had a broken ankle and was in excruciating pain. They decided to send him to the Espanola Animal Hospital where Maxwell was able to take part in the Give Me a Bone Foundation and get the surgery he needed to fix the bone in his paw.

Maxwell’s surgery was a success and he is now recovering nicely in the care of the Ontario SPCA Sudbury & District Animal Centre. Keep an eye on our Facebook page for updates on Maxwell as he gets ready to find his forever home.

Veteran Volunteer Continues to Make a Difference

Andrew P. has been a volunteer with the Ontario SPCA Sudbury & District Animal Centre for the past five year and has been a great asset to the team.   He is an enthusiastic and caring young man who gives a helping hand in so many ways.  Andrew maintains the kennels, ensures the animals are getting their exercise and being socialized, helps with the bathing and grooming, and anything else that needs to be done around the shelter. Andrew also helps out with many fundraising events and public awareness campaigns.

We would like to thank Andrew for his continued dedication to the animals.

Volunteer Opportunities

George and Eclaire Patches from Sudbury

Bonded Horses Need a Home

George & Eclaire are looking for their forever home in time for the holidays.

Eclaire is approximately 19 years old, Thoroughbred mare that can be ridden, but for pleasure only.

George is approximately 19 years old as well, he’s a Dutch Warm Blood gelding and is broke to ride, however he can only be ridden on flat ground due to some nerve damage in his back (where the saddle is placed).

They are both great horses and we would love to find them a home where they can spend their golden years together.

Can’t adopt a horse? You can still make an impact by "adopting" Velvet, the horse plush toy. Visit pawsandgive.ca to see her and all her friends.

A Long Journey for “Patches

“Patches” journey began in Pembroke when her owner had to sadly surrender her back in June of this year. It was decided to transfer Patches to the Ontario SPCA Sudbury & District Animal Centre to benefit from the Collège Boréal Vet Tech Program.

After a few months of care, Patches was ready for adoption, and that very day, found her perfect family.

Her new family recently told us that she is adapting very well in her new home and enjoys spending time with her new sister “Missy”, also adopted from the shelter. Patches’ long journey was worth the happy ending.
