Adopting a Pet for the Holidays

It’s the purrfect time to adopt during iAdopt for the Holidays. Until December 24th, we have lowered the adoption fee on all cats and kittens to $99 to help find as many felines forever homes before the holidays. The holidays are a great time to come together and add to your family.

The Ontario SPCA does not encourage giving pets as a surprise gift and should only occur when the recipient has shown a sustained interest in owning one, and has the ability to care for the pet responsibly. The Ontario SPCA's adoption team is trained to place the animal in their forever home. The Meet Your Match® program, run through our animal centres, is also a crucial element of this discussion.

Holiday Safety Tips

The holiday season is a busy time for many us. Between shopping, decorating and having company over, pets can often feel just as overwhelmed as humans. It’s important to take precautions and keep them feeling safe and away from potential dangers like poinsettias which can be fatal if ingested.

There are many things you can do to make the holidays a happy and safe one for everyone.

Come Take the Plunge

What better way to start the new year off by taking the lunge into the St. Lawrence River while supporting the animals in our community!
It’s the annual Polar Bear Plunge taking place in beautiful downtown Brockville. Join us on January 1st; registration starts at 12:30pm and the plunge will begin at 2pm.

Pledge sheets are available at the Animal Centre located at 800 Centennial Road in Brockville.

A special thank you to Dive Brockville for hosting the event.

Royal Canin® Helps the Animals

The Ontario SPCA is so fortunate to have Royal Canin® as an official feeding partner, providing nutritional food for the animals in our care.

The program helps maintain diet consistency for cats and dogs, helping reduce the stress that sometimes comes with being in a shelter environment.

Royal Canin food is now available for sale in our shelter with proceeds directly benefiting the animals. Adopters can purchase the food here to take home with their pet, allowing for a smoother transition.

Drop by the Animal Centre to learn more about this exciting program and purchase a bag of food to help feed our animals.

George and Eclaire Leeds 80 Spays.jpg

Bonded Horses Need a Home

George & Eclaire are looking for their forever home in time for the holidays.

Eclaire is approximately 19 years old, Thoroughbred mare that can be ridden, but for pleasure only.

George is approximately 19 years old as well, he’s a Dutch Warm Blood gelding and is broke to ride, however he can only be ridden on flat ground due to some nerve damage in his back (where the saddle is placed).

They are both great horses and we would love to find them a home where they can spend their golden years together.

Can’t adopt a horse? You can still make an impact by "adopting" Velvet, the horse plush toy. Visit pawsandgive.ca to see her and all her friends.

Community Comes Together

November was a great month thanks to our wonderful community coming together.

The “Let’s Talk” telethon presented by TVCogeco was held at the 1000 Island Mall and thanks to your generosity, raised over $8,000 for the animals. A special thanks to host David Dargie, Brandon Ward, Tamara McMurdock, Jeff Callery, Leigh Bursey and friends, Pat Johnson, and We’re a Big Deal with Chelsea Lee for providing the entertainment.

Our annual Around the Word in 80 Spays event was also a great success. Presented by Brockville Animal Hospital and Island City Animal Hospital, the event sold out and raised over $12,000 from ticket and auction sales which will be directed to the spay and neutering of pets in our community. Mark your calendar for next year’s event being held on Friday, November 4th, 2016.  With fabulous food dishes from around the world, it’s an event you won’t want to miss!
