April 2016
Spring has arrived! The dogs are so excited to start using our dog parks and trails, and the cats can't wait to use thier outdoor rooms. We are also celebrarting National Volunteer Week and would like to thank all our wonderful volunteers who dedicate their time and give their love to the animals in need. We would not be able to continue the life saving work we do without your support!

Learn to Spot the Signs of Dog Fighting
Dog fighting is a serious concern and it’s happening right here in our communities. Help stop this terrible act of cruelty by learning to spot the signs of a dog fighting operation.
- A number of dogs heavily chained appearing not to be socialized
- Dogs with scars on their faces, front legs, hind end or thighs
- Dog fighting training equipment such as treadmills used to build dogs’ endurance, “break sticks” used to pry apart the jaws of dogs locked in battle, tires or “springpoles” (usually a large spring with rope attached to either end) hanging from tree limbs, or unusual foot traffic coming and going from a location at odd hours
Watch CTV’s Dog fighting Video for additional information. (Warning: Contains graphic images)
If you happen to noticed any of these signs, call your local police unit or the Ontario SPCA Animal Cruelty Hotline at 310-SPCA (7722) immediately. Learn more about dog fighting and how you can help stop this animal abuse by vising EndDogFighting.ca.

Socializing your dog can be a great and rewarding experience for both you and your pet. Local Groomer Works Magic on “Jeffy”
“Jeffy” was brought in as a stray to the Ontario SPCA Midland & District Animal Centre in desperate need of some TLC. This sweet boy had some vision issues, and his coat was severely matted and dirty. Our animal centre staff were thrilled to work with a local groomer that decided to donate their services to make sure Jeffy got the attention he needed.
We were grateful to see him adopted a few short weeks later! He now happily hops around his new house and passes the hours playing with his new kitten friend. |
Puppies Bring Smiles to Seniors
Staff from the Ontario SPCA Midland & District Animal Centre recently paid a visit to the residents at the Georgian Manor retirement home in Penetanguishene with some furry friends.
The two adorable puppies who came along for the visit LOVED all the attention from the seniors. The seniors at the centre were also thrilled to have these lovable guests visit and brought lots of smiles. This was our first time visiting but it won't be our last! |
