#End Dog Fighting - Learn More

Learn to Spot the Signs of Dog Fighting

Dog fighting is a serious concern and it’s happening right here in our communities.  Help stop this terrible act of cruelty by learning to spot the signs of a dog fighting operation.

  • A number of dogs heavily chained appearing not to be socialized
  • Dogs with scars on their faces, front legs, hind end or thighs
  • Dog fighting training equipment such as treadmills used to build dogs’ endurance, “break sticks” used to pry apart the jaws of dogs locked in battle, tires or “springpoles” (usually a large spring with rope attached to either end) hanging from tree limbs, or unusual foot traffic coming and going from a location at odd hours

Watch CTV’s Dog fighting Video for additional information. (Warning: Contains graphic images)

If you happen to noticed any of these signs, call your local police unit or the Ontario SPCA Animal Cruelty Hotline at 310-SPCA (7722) immediately. Learn more about dog fighting and how you can help stop this animal abuse by vising EndDogFighting.ca.

Dog Introductions

What you Need to Know before Adopting a Cat

Having a pet is a big responsibility and a long term commitment. There are many things to consider for the well being of your new cat. Things like, finding the right veterinarian, knowing how to read your cat’s communication cues, and what supplies are needed.

Find out what you need to know before adopting a cat and beginning your journey.

Introducing Dogs to Each Other

Socializing your dog can be a great and rewarding experience for both you and your pet. Whether it's making friends at the dog park, or acquainting a new pet with an existing pet, companionship is a wonderful thing.  However, not all dogs are accepting of new furry companions and you want to ensure that they are off to the best start possible.

Check out our blog and watch this video for great tips on how to best introduce your dog to other dogs.

Repeat Visitor Penny Meets her Match

There’s a magical moment when a potential owner clicks with a pet. Penny has been a regular visitor to the Ontario SPCA Chatham-Kent Animal Centre, looking for a new companion to suit her lifestyle. While she wished she could give a new home to many of the dogs she met, she knew she had to wait for the right match.

She finally found just the right dog, and sweet little “Ginger” found the loving, forever home she so greatly deserves! We know these two will be best friends for years to come.
Finding Her Way Home

It is so rewarding to see pets reunited with their owners! A small tortoiseshell cat was brought to the Ontario SPCA Chatham-Kent Animal Centre after being spotted wandering outside. By cross-referencing reports of lost pets, we learned her name was “Susie”, and were able to match her with her owner!

Having your pet microchipped is the safest, easiest way to have lost animals returned to their owners. Keep your eyes peeled for our next low-cost microchipping clinic!

National Volunteer Week

National Volunteer Week

April 10-16, 2016 was National Volunteer Week. A week to honour and thank over 12.7 million volunteers in Ontario and across Canada for the time and energy they contribute to causes that benefit our communities.

Since 1873, Ontario SPCA volunteers have been the roots of respecting and protecting animals. Volunteers work tirelessly every day to help support our organization one hour, one service and one activity at a time. Without their dedication we would not be able to grow with the changing demands and needs facing our communities every year.

Their commitment to Animal Welfare makes the mission possible. Thank you volunteers!

Bake Sale Success

It’s so great to see young people taking an interest in Animal Welfare! Melissa, a 13-year-old student at St. Vincent School, was tasked with raising money for an organization of her choice for a class project.

Being an avid animal lover, she wanted to help the Ontario SPCA Chatham-Kent Animal Centre. She held a bake sale and raised a whopping $185! Way to go, Melissa! Our furry friends are grateful for your support.
