Please Help “Leo” Recover
“Leo”, a sweet 17-month-old Yorkshire Terrier, is still in recovery after being surrendered to the Ontario SPCA Barrie Animal Centre. He was in pain and very lethargic, and a veterinary exam revealed he needed emergency surgery for an object lodged in his intestinal tract.
While the surgery was a success, the recovery process is taking some time. His medical bills are mounting, and we ask for the public’s help to get him fully rehabilitated and into a new home.
Please visit Leo’s page to contribute to his recovery!

The Truth About Ticks
Tick season has arrived and we ask Dave Wilson, Director of Shelter Health & Wellness for the Ontario SPCA and retired vet, what we need to know to help keep our pets safe.
Ticks are members of the spider family, and their bites can cause serious illness such as Tick Paralysis or even Lyme disease. It’s important to learn tick prevention and treatment.
Read our two part series “PET HEALTH CORNER: The Truth about Ticks” and watch our You Tube Video “How to Remove a Tick” for more information.

Stray Pug Required Extra TLC
We had a stray Pug who arrived at the Ontario SPCA Barrie Animal Centre in terrible condition. Not only had she lost all her fur, but she was also covered in crusty bumps and scabs. Testing confirmed she suffered from mange, a common but painful skin condition in neglected or stray pets.
“Jayleen” required frequent medical baths, heartworm and flea medication, as well as antibiotics. We were relived when her attending veterinarian offered to foster her until she healed. Please contact us to learn more about Jayleen and how you can donate to help with her care.
