Cottage Safety

Ticks

Cottage Safety

Its cottage time and we couldn’t me more excited!  There’s nothing better than finishing off the week by loading up the pets and heading out for a weekend in nature.

In preparation for cottage season, we have some pet safety reminders to help make your Spring/Summer season a great one for everyone.

Read 6 Tips to Follow When Bringing your Pet to the Cottage before heading to the great outdoors!

The Truth About Ticks

Tick season has arrived and we ask Dave Wilson, Director of Shelter Health & Wellness for the Ontario SPCA and retired vet, what we need to know to help keep our pets safe.

Ticks are members of the spider family, and their bites can cause serious illness such as Tick Paralysis or even Lyme disease.  It’s important to learn tick prevention and treatment.

Read our two part series “PET HEALTH CORNER: The Truth about Ticks” and watch our You Tube Video “How to Remove a Tick” for more information.

Meet “Paula”

Are you looking for a sweet, quiet new family member? “Paula” is a shy, loving 4-year-old female cat who is looking for a wonderful new home. She is a purple “Secret Admirer” in the Meet Your Match® program. While the activity in the Ontario SPCA Huron County Animal Centre is a bit too busy for Paula, she will thrive with some nap ‘n lap cuddle time in a tranquil home.

Please contact us to learn more about adopting Paula!
Microchipping Clinic for Local Pet Owners

The first microchip clinic of the year was held on April 2nd at Clinton Veterinary Services, in partnership with the Ontario SPCA Huron County Animal Centre. We were thrilled to see so many pet owners participate in this clinic who will now have peace of mind that their pet will be easily identified if ever lost.

Ensure your pet makes it home! Contact us to book your appointment for our June microchip clinic by contacting us at (519) 440-0250 or emailing huroncounty@ospca.on.ca.

No Excuses...No Hot Pets

I left the window down for him” “I wasn’t going to be gone long” We’ve heard it all! As you may know, the issue of owners leaving their pets in their vehicles during the hot summer months, putting animals’ safety at risk and even causing death, is an ongoing problem across Ontario. There is no excuse for leaving a pet unattended in a vehicle and this summer we need your help to share this important message.

Join us on May 24th by visiting nohotpets.ca for the official launch of our 2016 No Hot Pets campaign!

Volunteer Appreciation Evening Enjoyed by All

Thank you to our Ontario SPCA Huron County Animal Centre volunteers! We had a wonderful time during National Volunteer Week (April 10-16, 2016) celebrating all of our amazing volunteers. They help to care for the animals, raise much needed funds and increase awareness for Animal Welfare.

Thank you to our friends at Halcyon Candle Co. for helping us celebrate with a candle-making workshop and treating our volunteers to a candle of their choice!
