The Truth About Ticks
Tick season has arrived and we ask Dave Wilson, Director of Shelter Health & Wellness for the Ontario SPCA and retired vet, what we need to know to help keep our pets safe.
Ticks are members of the spider family, and their bites can cause serious illness such as Tick Paralysis or even Lyme disease. It’s important to learn tick prevention and treatment.
Read our two part series “PET HEALTH CORNER: The Truth about Ticks” and watch our You Tube Video “How to Remove a Tick” for more information.

20 Kuranda beds Donated in Loving Memory
Candie Abramson Argue and Cindi Foley surprised us by donating 20 Kuranda cat beds to the Ontario SPCA Sudbury & District Animal Centre in memory of their dear mother, Janet Beauchamp, who passed away earlier this year.
These specialty beds are durable, hygienic and extremely comfortable for cats to sleep on. Cindi, who is also an employee at our Animal Centre, was happy to donate this lasting tribute for our feline friends. “Our mom was a cat lover, and would be happy knowing that the cats would be a little more comfortable at the shelter.” |
16th Annual Furry Friends Feast 2016
The Ontario SPCA Sudbury & District Animal Centre celebrated its 16th annual Furry Friends Feast on April 23, 2016, at the Idylwylde Golf and Country Club. There were many reasons to celebrate as we partied throughout the night!
The event was a great success, with over $7,000 raised for our Animal Centre. We would like to extend a big thank you to all our volunteers that helped out for the success this event, and we would also like to thank all of our partners and supporters in making this evening possible. |

No Excuses...No Hot Pets
“I left the window down for him” “I wasn’t going to be gone long” We’ve heard it all!
As you may know, the issue of owners leaving their pets in their vehicles
during the hot summer months, putting animals’ safety at risk and even causing
death, is an ongoing problem across Ontario.
There is no excuse for leaving a pet unattended in a vehicle and this summer we
need your help to share this important message.
Join us on May
24th by visiting nohotpets.ca for the official launch of our 2016 No Hot Pets
campaign!

National Volunteer Week 2016
The Ontario SPCA Sudbury & District Animal Centre celebrated National Volunteer Day on April 15, 2016. On this day, we honoured all of our valued volunteers that have donated so much of their time to the Animal Centre and to the animals. It is with their efforts that we continue to achieve the great accomplishments of our Centre. Karen, Val and Aki (not pictured) are three of our excellent volunteer team members who help improve the quality of our animals’ lives.
Thank you to everyone on our volunteer team for your dedication!
