Got a Pet? Get a Vet!™ The Ontario SPCA, the Ontario Veterinary Medical Association (OVMA), and participating SPCAs and Humane Societies in Ontario, encourage pet owners that if you've 'Got a Pet? Get a Vet!™'.  It`s important to establish a relationship with a veterinarian. Just one check-up a year can help protect against a variety of potentially life-threatening diseases, detect health problems sooner, and avoid unexpected costs. Know an outstanding vet? Submit a nomination for the 2016 ‘Got a Pet? Get a Vet!™ Award’ and encourage friends and family to vote for the winner.  Contest is open until May 23rd, 2016.
Cottage Safety Its cottage time and we couldn’t me more excited!  There’s nothing better than finishing off the week by loading up the pets and heading out for a weekend in nature. The Truth About Ticks Tick season has arrived and we ask Dave Wilson, Director of Shelter Health & Wellness for the Ontario SPCA and retired vet, what we need to know to help keep our pets safe. Ticks are members of the spider family, and their bites can cause serious illness such as Tick Paralysis or even Lyme disease.  It’s important to learn tick prevention and treatment.   Read our two part series “PET HEALTH CORNER: The Truth about Ticks” and watch our You Tube Video “How to Remove a Tick” for more information.
iAdopt Campaign Finds Home for 51 Cats As a way to promote adoption in our community, the Ontario SPCA Stormont Dundas & Glengarry Animal Centre holds adoption drives throughout the year. During a recent iAdopt campaign, we were able to find homes for an incredible 51 cats! We were also glad to see “Babs” finally find a home. Thank you to everyone who participated during this iAdopt campaign, and to those who were able to provide homes to some of our wonderful pets!	Hilda and “Sunshine” are the Perfect Pair We recently had a small, easy-going Bichon Havanese-mix named “Sunshine” here at the Ontario SPCA Stormont Dundas & Glengarry Animal Centre. We knew she needed a home where she could enjoy lots of naps and quiet time with a loving owner. Hilda was looking for a low-maintenance pet who would adapt to her lifestyle. Fortunately, the two were an ideal match and Sunshine was adopted by Hilda. She is spoiled with love and affection, and we couldn’t be happier for this perfect pair.
No Excuses...No Hot Pets “I left the window down for him” “I wasn’t going to be gone long” We’ve heard it all! As you may know, the issue of owners leaving their pets in their vehicles during the hot summer months, putting animals’ safety at risk and even causing death, is an ongoing problem across Ontario. There is no excuse for leaving a pet unattended in a vehicle and this summer we need your help to share this important message. Join us on May 24th by visiting nohotpets.ca for the official launch of our 2016 No Hot Pets campaign!	Volunteer Appreciation Event Enjoyed by All Every year, we hold a luncheon for our volunteers as a way of saying thank you for all of their dedication and efforts. It takes some special teamwork between our volunteers and Ontario SPCA Stormont Dundas & Glengarry Animal Centre staff to help keep our animals happy and healthy, and our facility sparkling clean and efficient. It was wonderful to have two of our committed volunteers, Kim Dooley and Tracy McElan, join us for this special event.
