May 2016

Last month was all about volunteers with our Volunteer Appreciation Event. This night was for the staff to celebrate our volunteers and thank them for the endless support they provide. Our volunteers are so dedicated, that many of them wanted to stay and help clean up. We continue to be amazed by everything they do for the animals in Renfrew County. Words aren't enough to express our gratitude!

The Truth About Ticks

Tick season has arrived and we ask Dave Wilson, Director of Shelter Health & Wellness for the Ontario SPCA and retired vet, what we need to know to help keep our pets safe.

Ticks are members of the spider family, and their bites can cause serious illness such as Tick Paralysis or even Lyme disease.  It’s important to learn tick prevention and treatment.

Read our two part series “PET HEALTH CORNER: The Truth about Ticks” and watch our You Tube Video “How to Remove a Tick” for more information.

Pascale Pet Valu
Thank you Pascale!

This month, we want to highlight our volunteer Pascale Paradis. Pascale has been volunteering at the Ontario SPCA Renfrew County Animal Centre since 2012. She has a unique "Yes I can!” attitude that she approaches every task with.

Pascale started out volunteering as a dog walker and in cat enrichment, and more recently with special events and fundraising. We are sad to see Pascale leave us this summer as she embarks a new journey working for Ontario Parks.

Congratulations Pascale and we wish you nothing but the best!
Thank you, Community Supporters!

We really can't say enough about the amazing local residents in our community, and the businesses and other organizations that operate in Renfrew County.

One of our biggest supporters is Pet Valu. We want to take this opportunity to thank the owner Melissa (and her dog Daisy of course), as well as the  devoted staff who work tirelessly all year round to benefit the Ontario SPCA Renfrew County Animal Centre in so many positive ways. Thank you to the Pet Valu team!
