Cottage Safety

Ticks

Cottage Safety

Its cottage time and we couldn’t me more excited!  There’s nothing better than finishing off the week by loading up the pets and heading out for a weekend in nature.

In preparation for cottage season, we have some pet safety reminders to help make your Spring/Summer season a great one for everyone.

Read 6 Tips to Follow When Bringing your Pet to the Cottage before heading to the great outdoors!

The Truth About Ticks

Tick season has arrived and we ask Dave Wilson, Director of Shelter Health & Wellness for the Ontario SPCA and retired vet, what we need to know to help keep our pets safe.

Ticks are members of the spider family, and their bites can cause serious illness such as Tick Paralysis or even Lyme disease.  It’s important to learn tick prevention and treatment.

Read our two part series “PET HEALTH CORNER: The Truth about Ticks” and watch our You Tube Video “How to Remove a Tick” for more information.

14 Flemish Giant Rabbits up for Adoption

After a recent investigation, 14 Flemish Giant rabbit mixes came into our care at the Ontario SPCA Orangeville & District Animal Centre. These adorable rabbits received veterinary inspections and 12 were put up for adoption. The remaining two rabbits were pregnant and went into foster care until the kits were born.

We want to thank Vicki and Jen, who fostered the two pregnant rabbits, and PetSmart locations in Newmarket, Vaughan, Orangeville and Oakville for facilitating the adoptions. Please visit our adoption page if you’re interested in adopting one of these wonderful rabbits!

No Hot Pets

No Excuses...No Hot Pets

I left the window down for him” “I wasn’t going to be gone long” We’ve heard it all! As you may know, the issue of owners leaving their pets in their vehicles during the hot summer months, putting animals’ safety at risk and even causing death, is an ongoing problem across Ontario. There is no excuse for leaving a pet unattended in a vehicle and this summer we need your help to share this important message.

Join us on May 24th by visiting nohotpets.ca for the official launch of our 2016 No Hot Pets campaign!

Donate your Empty Bottles

Did you know the Ontario SPCA Orangeville & District Animal Centre hosts a bottle drive fundraiser that operates all year around? The public can drop off beer, wine and liquor bottles/cans at any time of the week to support animals in need.

Clear out those garages, basements, cellars and sheds and drop empty bottles off at our Animal Centre on Tuesday, June 14, 2016, for our special bottle drive event. We are also offering a pick-up service for larger volumes of bottles from residents and businesses; please call us for more information at (519) 942-3140 ext. 23.
