The Truth About Ticks
Tick season has arrived and we ask Dave Wilson, Director of Shelter Health & Wellness for the Ontario SPCA and retired vet, what we need to know to help keep our pets safe.
Ticks are members of the spider family, and their bites can cause serious illness such as Tick Paralysis or even Lyme disease. It’s important to learn tick prevention and treatment.
Read our two part series “PET HEALTH CORNER: The Truth about Ticks” and watch our You Tube Video “How to Remove a Tick” for more information.

Pet Valu Helps Adopt Out More Animals
Our partners at Pet Valu recently held a fabulous adoption event in our community and we couldn’t be happier with the outcome. What a success! Two of our adult cats and twelve sweet puppies all found their forever homes.
The event included a fun filled day with a carnival theme, games, prizes and delicious snacks. Thanks to all the staff at Pet Valu in Midland who ran this event and helped find homes for our furry friends. |
Gardeners Gather in Support of the Animals
The Ontario SPCA Midland & District Animal Centre held the annual Gardener’s Gathering in April and what a success! With your support, we raised over $8,000…all going towards the care of the animals in our community.
Thank you to all the lovely vendors who were able to donate items for our silent auction and everyone who came out to the event. It was a great morning, full of fun and could not have been made possible without our many dedicated volunteers! |

No Excuses...No Hot Pets
“I left the window down for him” “I wasn’t going to be gone long” We’ve heard it all!
As you may know, the issue of owners leaving their pets in their vehicles
during the hot summer months, putting animals’ safety at risk and even causing
death, is an ongoing problem across Ontario.
There is no excuse for leaving a pet unattended in a vehicle and this summer we
need your help to share this important message
Join us on May
24th by visiting nohotpets.ca for the official launch of our 2016 No Hot Pets

Midland Movie Night!
In appreciation of all our amazing volunteers, the Ontario SPCA Midland & District Animal Centre hosted a movie night. It included a concession stand which the staff helped serve and a hilarious comedy. All of us here appreciate the time and effort that you put in helping us everyday. It means a lot to us but most importantly to all the animals that we care for each and every day.
Thank you to all who attended and helped to make this night a success.
