From Filthy to Fabulous and Healthy
We recently had three Maltese mixes surrendered into our care by their owner. “Curly”, “Larry” and “Moe” had severely matted coats, overgrown nails and were inexperienced walking on a leash. All three received veterinary care, were extensively groomed, had their nails trimmed and are expected to make a full recovery thanks to a lot of love and care.
The Ontario SPCA Leeds & Grenville Animal Centre would be very grateful for any additional donations which can be directed to the care of Curly, Larry and Moe. Please contact us to learn how you can help.

The Truth About Ticks
Tick season has arrived and we ask Dave Wilson, Director of Shelter Health & Wellness for the Ontario SPCA and retired vet, what we need to know to help keep our pets safe.
Ticks are members of the spider family, and their bites can cause serious illness such as Tick Paralysis or even Lyme disease. It’s important to learn tick prevention and treatment.
Read our two part series “PET HEALTH CORNER: The Truth about Ticks” and watch our You Tube Video “How to Remove a Tick” for more information.

“I left the window down for him” “I wasn’t going to be gone long” We’ve heard it all!
As you may know, the issue of owners leaving their pets in their vehicles
during the hot summer months, putting animals’ safety at risk and even causing
death, is an ongoing problem across Ontario.
There is no excuse for leaving a pet unattended in a vehicle and this summer we
need your help to share this important message.
Join us on May
24th by visiting nohotpets.ca for the official launch of our 2016 No Hot Pets

“Mrs. Kisses”
“Kisses” was an 11-year-old Rottweiler cross who came into the Ontario SPCA Leeds & Grenville Animal Centre with another dog and two cats. Her coat was infested with fleas, and she was missing fur on her hind legs and lower back. Kisses received prompt veterinary treatment and with some TLC began to recover.
Visitors Jill and Jim came into our Animal Centre, and were looking to adopt a calm and friendly dog that would fit in with their lifestyle. Even in her senior years, Kisses was the perfect match for them. In her new home, she goes by “Mrs. Kisses”, is very loving and runs to greet anyone new that she meets. We couldn’t be happier for Kisses in her new home.
