An afternoon in the garden, or day on the trails, even the most responsible pet owners might be at risk of their pet having heatstroke. Increased heart rate, excessive panting or drooling and listlessness are some of the signs that your pet might be in danger.

Keep your pets safe by learning the signs and what to do if your pet suffers from heatstroke.

Animal Transfer Program Set to Help 60 Cats Find New Homes

The Ontario SPCA, in partnership with Beat the Heat Kenora and the Welland & District SPCA, is excited to take part in another great transfer initiative that will see 60 cats getting a second chance at finding their forever home.

As part of the Ontario SPCA’s Animal Transfer Program, the cats, which are coming from the Kenora and Thunder Bay areas, will be transported to central Ontario where they will be examined and prepared to be adopted out into new homes by the Welland & District SPCA with support from the Ontario SPCA.

Cats need more than nine lives, they need a second chance and this is Mission Possible via collaboration and dedication to Animal Welfare!

Partnership Forged with Municipality

The Ontario SPCA would like to congratulate the Township of Laurentian Valley for taking an active role in its community animal management program. We are pleased be able to provide the pound services for the municipality.

The Ontario SPCA uses a science-based adoption program called Meet Your Match® that is designed to help increase adoptions and reduce animal returns. Before the animal is adopted from the Ontario SPCA, the animal receives a health check, vaccinations, is spayed or neutered and microchipped. In addition, once they are adopted they receive a gift of six weeks of pet insurance.

We are excited to be able to offer this service to the Township of Laurentian Valley to help find homes for animals in need.
