An afternoon in the garden, or day on the trails, even the most responsible pet owners might be at risk of their pet having heatstroke. Increased heart rate, excessive panting or drooling and listlessness are some of the signs that your pet might be in danger.
Keep your pets safe by learning the signs and what to do if your pet suffers from heatstroke.

Animal Transfer Program Set to Help 60 Cats Find New Homes
The Ontario SPCA, in partnership with Beat the Heat Kenora and the Welland & District SPCA, is excited to take part in another great transfer initiative that will see 60 cats getting a second chance at finding their forever home.
As part of the Ontario SPCA’s Animal Transfer Program, the cats, which are coming from the Kenora and Thunder Bay areas, will be transported to central Ontario where they will be examined and prepared to be adopted out into new homes by the Welland & District SPCA with support from the Ontario SPCA.
Cats need more than nine lives, they need a second chance and this is Mission Possible via collaboration and dedication to Animal Welfare!

Senior Cats Find a New Family
Chee & Abby met their match! These senior cats came to us separately last month, both in need of a loving home. Chee originally came from the Ontario SPCA Barrie Animal Centre and Abby, who was adopted many years ago, was returned when her owner became ill.
When Linda and her daughter came into our centre looking for a pair of sisters or a bonded pair, they immediately fell in love with Chee, who instantly greeted them. In the next adoption room they met Abby, who was much quieter and reserved, but won their hearts. Linda knew the cats would be great company for each other, and for her family. We’re happy to report that these senior gals are getting along great and are perfect companions for Linda and her family.

Doggone Awesome!
We would like to thank our dog walker Ivan for his volunteer time and the amazing bonds he creates with the dogs in our care. Ivan is eager and always brings a smile and positive attitude with him to the shelter, which is just one of the reasons we’re always happy to have him around.
We are always in need of dog walkers from Monday to Friday between 9 a.m. - 11 a.m. to assist our staff in getting our dogs’ day started with a walk! Dogs with boundless energy benefit from these outings and become more relaxed after exercise. |
