 Kent Princess Wiggles

Special Cases Require Extra Care

Staff and volunteers at the Ontario SPCA Chatham-Kent Animal Centre have been busy caring for two special animals facing challenges on their road to recovery. Aliyah, a lovely Siamese cross cat, and Princess Wiggles, a Sharpei-Lab mix, came to our centre and stole our hearts with their incredible personalities.

Aliyah’s teeth were in terrible condition and needed to be removed to relieve her pain, and Princess Wiggles needed entropian surgery to correct her inverted eyelids. While the surgeries were a success, and Aliyah has already been adopted, the costs have mounted. One of our incredible volunteers has offered to sponsor Aliyah’s surgery, but we are still in need of donations for Princess Wiggles. If you can help, please make a donation to the Chatham-Kent Animal Centre.

Road Trip

Know the Signs of Heatstroke

An afternoon in the garden, or day on the trails, even the most responsible pet owners might be at risk of their pet having heatstroke. Increased heart rate, excessive panting or drooling and listlessness are some of the signs that your pet might be in danger.

Keep your pets safe by learning the signs and what to do if your pet suffers from heatstroke.

Telus Day of Giving Supports Animals in Need

Employees from Telus and Koodo chose the Ontario SPCA Chatham-Kent Animal Centre as their charity of choice to volunteer for during their Telus Day of Giving event. Partnering with Enviro Clean Car and Dog Wash, the employees not only washed over 15 dogs, but also held a barbecue for their owners, who enjoyed sausages and hot dogs.

All of the proceeds went back to help the animals at the Chatham-Kent Animal Centre as Enviro Clean owners, Jim and Dee, donated the use of their dog wash and all of the supplies to get the dogs squeaky clean. The event raised over $200, an amount that Jim and Dee are matching.

A Match Made in Heaven

Leslie is an eight-year-old Chow cross that was found by our animal control officers stuck in a fence. It took a bit of time for her to settle down and trust the staff, but with consistency and patience from our staff, Leslie came around.

Our volunteers absolutely fell in love with her as much as our staff did! After waiting a full month to be adopted, someone drove from three hours away because she saw that same special something in Leslie that we did.

According to her adopter, Leslie is settling in well and has met lots of people and new dog friends. It’s a match made in heaven!
