Register Today to Walk for Animals in Need
The Friends
For Life! Walk™ presented by Pedigree® is taking place at Mud Creek Park on Saturday September 24th, 2016! Follow us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram to keep current on the latest
giveaways, flash contests and everything you need to get you and your pup ready
for the Walk!
The Friends for Life! Walk™ is a major fundraiser for the Ontario SPCA
and its Affiliates. You don’t need to bring a dog to the Walk to participate.
In fact, you don’t even need to own a pet! The Friends for Life! Walk™ is a way
for you to give back to your community by helping animals in need.
We can’t do this alone, which is why we need you to go the extra mile to
help vulnerable animals.

Take the #NoHotPets Pledge
Did you know that dogs have a
limited ability to sweat and that even a short time in a hot environment can be
life-threatening? A dog’s normal body temperature is about 39°C, a temperature
of 41°C can be withstood only for a very short time before irreparable brain
damage or even death can occur.
We need you to help spread the
message about the danger of leaving pets unattended in vehicles. Take the pledge to receive a No Hot Pets car
decal to show your support. You can also invite friends to take the pledge on
social media using #nohotpets for a chance to win a weekly “cool pet” prize.
No Excuses. No Hot Pets.

Union Gas employees lend a helping hand
Each year, the amazing staff members at Union Gas apply for a
Helping Hands grant to help out the Ontario SPCA Chatham-Kent Animal Centre.
Not only does the Animal Centre benefit from the grant, which is used for
upgrades, but the employees at Union Gas complete all of the work!
This year, the wonderful group helped with walking dogs,
cuddling cats, painting dog kennels, cleaning up the yard, and pruning and planting
an amazing catnip garden for all of the cats in the Centre! We cannot express
enough how thankful we are! You folks are phenomenal!

Fixing the Pet Overpopulation Crisis Starts With You
Pet overpopulation is at a crisis
level in Ontario and we need responsible pet owners like you to spay it
forward. By spaying or neutering your pet, you’re doing your part to help
reduce the number of homeless animals that end up in animal centres across the
province.
Spaying and neutering is a
straight-forward medical procedure with many health benefits, including the
reduction in the risk of developing certain cancers and illnesses.
The Ontario SPCA’s
high-volume spay/neuter clinics are open Monday to Friday, with one Saturday
each month.

Steve will
soon be ready for adoption
Meet Steve, a sweet kitten
in need! Steve came to the Chatham-Kent
Animal Centre looking a little rough from his travels. This
extremely young fellow was missing an eye, had
severe upper respiratory issues and needed to be bottle fed as he was not
eating on his own.
Luckily, our vet partners stepped in and provided him with
some much-needed care! He is currently in foster care but needs surgery to repair
the eye socket. Once the surgery is complete, he will be up for adoption!

Transfer program gives animals more options
We work extremely hard to find homes
for all animals but sometimes doing everything that you can still does not end
up in finding that perfect match. That's when we turn to our very successful transfer
program to help animals gain more exposure in other communities.
Digger is a big guy who has benefitted
from this program. Sweet as pie, Digger was overlooked in his kennel as he
barked a lot, trying to gain the attention of anyone who came in. Staff worked
hard to correct this behaviour, but Digger still didn’t have any interested
adopters.
Setting up a transfer proved to be exactly what Digger needed! Digger
has had more people interested in adopting him and we are sure it will only be
a matter of time before he finds his forever home.
We are grateful to have these
opportunities to work with Animal Centres across Ontario and so are the
animals!
