New Shelter Health Pro website launched
The Ontario SPCA has launched a new online tool,
shelterhealthpro.com, to equip animal shelter staff, volunteers and veterinary
care providers with resources to make animals more comfortable in a humane and
healthy environment.
While designed specifically for animal shelter staff,
volunteers and veterinary care providers, the information available on the new
Shelter Health Pro website is applicable to anyone responsible for housing a
large group of animals. This includes breeders, kennel operators and event
organizers, such as those hosting dog shows and pet expos.
The goal of the website is to save lives with the most
current best practices for improving animal health and welfare through
effective management strategies, protocols and resources for infection and
disease prevention and control.

Friends
for Life! Walk™ fundraiser welcomes 70 walkers
Enthusiastic
walkers came out to the Wye Marsh on Sunday, Sept. 25 for our Friends for Life!
Walk in support of the animals in the Midland & District community.
A huge thank you to everyone who helped make the Friends for Life! Walk such a
success! With a total of 70 walkers and 40 dogs, it was our best turnout to
date and it made for an exciting day. The event wouldn’t have been successful
without the generosity of our community, the commitment of our volunteers and
everyone who donated, fundraised or participated in the walk.
A
special thank you is in order for Paul's No Frills and our Midland Pet Valu for
all their hard work in this event.

Adopt an animal this holiday season
It won’t be long until the holidays are here and the Ontario
SPCA is gearing up to find homes for as many animals as possible during “iAdopt
for the Holidays”. From Nov. 1 to Dec. 31, SPCAs, Humane Societies, rescue
groups and Animal Welfare groups across Canada will be encouraging people to
choose pet adoption as their first option when bringing home a new family
member. The Ontario SPCA will also be rolling out some exciting new initiatives,
contests and special promotions throughout iAdopt for the Holidays, so stay
tuned for details!

Meet
the volunteer who is always smiling
This month we would like to
highlight the volunteer efforts of Taylor! Enough good things cannot be said
about the work that she does for our centre.
Our days are made easier when she’s here and we are always so thankful to have
her come through our doors. Taylor is always happy to put in extra work and
extra time when needed to make sure all of our animals receive the best care!
She never arrives without a smile and is prepared to help walk the dogs in rain
or shine, socialize with the cats or help members of the public.
Our animals are happier and healthier thanks to Taylor.

Munich Meets His Match
Meet Munich, a handsome five-year-old cat with so much love to give! Munich was
in a need of a forever home after being found as a stray in Thunder Bay and
brought to the Humane Society there.
When Munich was transferred to the Ontario SPCA Midland & District Animal
Centre, the staff quickly fell in love with this incredible little guy. After
being in our care for weeks, our staff and volunteers couldn’t understand why
this social, friendly guy hadn’t been adopted yet.
Finally at the end of September, Munich’s new forever family walked through the
door of our centre! We had posted his picture and some information our social
media the day before. When the family said they were here to meet Munich, the
chubby orange cat they saw on Facebook, we knew this was it!
We are all so happy Munich will get a fresh start in his new home!
