‘Tis the season to adopt
iAdopt for
the Holidays is now in full swing, which means we’re asking you to consider
giving a homeless animal a loving home.
Until Dec.
31, the Ontario SPCA, as well as SPCAs, Humane Societies and Animal Welfare groups
across Canada are encouraging people to choose pet adoption as their first
option when bringing home a new family member. Be
sure to visit your local participating society to take part in iAdopt for the Holidays and change an
animal’s life this holiday season.
PLUS during the campaign period, all cats
and kittens at Ontario SPCA animal centres are available for adoption for only $99 and
you’ll receive a free box of Arm & Hammer® clumping cat litter while
supplies last!
Already have an adopted pet? Enter the iAdopt
contest for a chance to WIN free pet food for a year from Royal Canin!

Canada’s first Provincial Dog Rehabilitation Centre will assist dogs
that require extra care and attention
The
campaign to build the Ontario SPCA Provincial Dog Rehabilitation Centre is now
underway! This one-of-a-kind facility will fill a critical gap in current
services by addressing the special needs of dogs most difficult to adopt.
The
Provincial Dog Rehabilitation Centre will be built on Peterborough Humane
Society’s lush new 20-acre property, giving dogs a fresh start with lots of
opportunities to enjoy the outdoors. Designed from the ground up for dogs who
require extra care and attention, the building will feature an abundance of
natural light to promote healing and a layout that incorporates the latest
research and best practices in animal centre management.
Take a few minutes to learn about this campaign in our
Animals’ Voice Pawdcast.

Lily’s
joy helps heal broken hearts
Lily
is a three-year-old Husky/Akita cross. She had a rough start to life, as she
was severely neglected during her first year of life. As a result, Lily is very
cautious when she meets someone new. It took a great deal of effort – and
coaxing with treats – to get her to approach us. After being in our care for awhile,
Lily began to come out of her shell and we all saw her blossom. She went from
cowering in the corner to playing.
One
day a woman came in to look at the dogs up for adoption. Her parents’ dog had
just passed away a few weeks earlier, and she was looking for a new companion
for her father. She met Lily and saw how she ran around our yard, joyfully playing
with her toys. When she told her father about Lily, she saw him smile for the
first time since his dog had passed away. The next day, Lily was making her way
to her forever home!
We wish Lily all the best in her new home! Our hearts
are filled with happiness knowing she is being loved by a new family and has
brought love back into their house after the loss of their dog

Meet Judy, the newest addition to the Rocky & Friends collection
This holiday season, we’re excited to introduce Judy as the newest plush in our Rocky & Friends collection. Like the other Friends, Judy is created in the image of a very real animal who got a second chance because of caring and kind people like you who support the Ontario SPCA.
At just three weeks old, Judy and her family were part of a very special journey. The Ontario SPCA was invited by a remote Northern community to assist in a stray dog transfer and rehoming operation.
At the Ontario SPCA, Judy and her six siblings were put in the loving care of a temporary foster home to be nurtured until they were old enough to be adopted. This black Shepherd-Labrador mix and her siblings were all adopted and are very happy in their new forever homes.
When you give this plush toy as a gift, you will be helping to rescue other dogs like Judy.

Two feline friends find their home
together!
Pepper and Steve were surrendered
to our centre on Aug. 31 after their owners were unable to care for them. These
two buddies are inseparable and spend every moment together. Our hope was that
someone would come along and welcome them both into their home.
We’re pleased
to tell you that Pepper and Steve were adopted together! We wish these two
feline friends all the best in their new home.

Dedicated dog walker always has a
smile
Blair
has been volunteering as a dog walker with the Ontario SPCA Leeds & Grenville
Animal Centre for almost two years now. Rain or shine he comes in with a huge
smile on his face and a positive attitude, ready to walk all our furry canine
friends. He has also been a big help with transporting animals to and from
other Ontario SPCA animal centres.
Blair
has recently taken on a new position for work and sadly will no longer be
available to help with dog walking on Friday mornings. We'll miss Blair’s smiling
face but we're happy to hear that he will still be volunteering with us on his
days off.Congratulations
on the new job Blair and good luck with your future endeavors!
