Canada’s first Provincial Dog Rehabilitation Centre will assist dogs that require extra care and attention

The campaign to build the Ontario SPCA Provincial Dog Rehabilitation Centre is now underway! This one-of-a-kind facility will fill a critical gap in current services by addressing the special needs of dogs most difficult to adopt.

The Provincial Dog Rehabilitation Centre will be built on Peterborough Humane Society’s lush new 20-acre property, giving dogs a fresh start with lots of opportunities to enjoy the outdoors. Designed from the ground up for dogs who require extra care and attention, the building will feature an abundance of natural light to promote healing and a layout that incorporates the latest research and best practices in animal centre management.

Meet Judy, the newest addition to the Rocky & Friends collection

This holiday season, we’re excited to introduce Judy as the newest plush in our Rocky & Friends collection. Like the other Friends, Judy is created in the image of a very real animal who got a second chance because of caring and kind people like you who support the Ontario SPCA.

At just three weeks old, Judy and her family were part of a very special journey. The Ontario SPCA was invited by a remote Northern community to assist in a stray dog transfer and rehoming operation.

At the Ontario SPCA, Judy and her six siblings were put in the loving care of a temporary foster home to be nurtured until they were old enough to be adopted. This black Shepherd-Labrador mix and her siblings were all adopted and are very happy in their new forever homes.

When you give this plush toy as a gift, you will be helping to rescue other dogs like Judy.

We’re still here and helping our community!

The Ontario SPCA would like to remind the public that although our programs and services in the Chatham-Kent region are shifting, we are still actively involved in the community. For years the Ontario SPCA was housed in a municipal-owned animal centre. This facility was designated to the agency or organization that was fulfilling the animal control contract for the municipality. As the Ontario SPCA is no longer providing the animal control services for the region, we are required to move out of that facility.

As of November 11, 2016 the Ontario SPCA will no longer reside in the 405 Park Avenue East location in Chatham.

The Ontario SPCA has many services that we have offered to the Chatham-Kent region and many that we will continue to provide.
