Friends
of the Friends For Life! Walk™ presented by Pedigree®
Lee Duguid is a friend of the Friends for Life! Walk. In her

$610. Now, 24 years later, Lee is still an active participant and, for
the past eight years, has been the top fundraiser in the province. She has
raised a total of over $79,000! When asked why Lee participates year after year
in the walk, her answer is simple, “I don’t feel people realize how much dogs
and animals do for us. We receive such loyalty and unconditional love from
animals and I think we should treat them as they treat us!”
Regardless of whether you raise $10 or $1,000 in the
Friends For Life! Walk, you are making a difference for animals in Ontario. Register today and help change
animals’ lives, one step at a time!

Air Cadets take Animal Welfare to new
heights
Cadets from
the 102 (Barrie Silver Fox) Squadron of the Royal Canadian Air Cadets visited
the Ontario SPCA Barrie Animal Centre on May 13 as part of the squadron’s “Amazing
Race” throughout the city.
Arriving
every half hour throughout the day, cadets were given a tour of the animal
centre where they learned about the Ontario SPCA and Animal Welfare.
Afterwards, they generously donated their time to clean up and enhance the
outside of the animal centre.
It was a
busy and engaging day and the cadets learned a number of things about our
centre. We enjoyed welcoming them and hope to see their familiar faces back for
possible volunteer opportunities.

Volunteers keep our grounds looking
good
Have you been by the Ontario SPCA Barrie Animal Centre
recently? It’s looking good thanks to the hard work of some wonderful
volunteers.
When the outside of our centre needed a little TLC, it only
took one email to launch our new “grounds crew.” Ben and Richard come to our
centre every Saturday and give their time to ensure our grass is cut and the
trees and shrubs are pruned. They have also started new gardens and are happy
to complete the myriad of miscellaneous tasks that present themselves.
The centre looks much better on the outside now, and more
improvement is to come. What would we do without our wonderful volunteers?

What you need to know before camping with your
pet
Planning a camping trip this summer?
If you’re thinking
of bringing your dog on your next adventure, here are some tips to keep in
mind to ensure it’s a positive experience for you, your pet and your fellow
campers.
Here’s what you need to know:
- Keep your dog on a leash of less than two metres at
all times.
- Pick up and dispose of your dog’s waste in the
garbage.
- Keep your dog from chasing/harassing wildlife.
- Use designated “dog beaches” only for swimming.
- If your dog is a “barker,” avoid the stress
and consider not bringing Fido on this trip.
- If bugs are bothering your dog, consult with
your veterinarian about the best bug repellent option for your pet.
- Be sure to check park regulations before
reserving your site as not all campgrounds allow dogs.
With these tips in mind, enjoy summer camping with your
dog!

Coconut
is patiently waiting to find a loving home
Meet Coconut, a gorgeous long-haired, spayed female.
Coconut's Feline-ality™ colour is
orange, which means she’ll make a perfect sidekick for any family. She is
affectionate and very classy.
You might be wondering, what’s Feline-ality™? Ontario
SPCA animal centres use the ASPCA's Meet Your Match™ program to assess
adoptable cats to predict how they'll behave in a new environment.
Cats are
categorized into one of nine “feline-alities.” Green cats are savvy and
adventurous, orange cats make the perfect companions and purple kitties are
quiet, seek affection and stay out of trouble.
Coconut is 10 years young and looking for her forever home.
She has been at our centre since mid-May and is patiently waiting for a loving
family to find her. Could it be yours? She’s a centre favourite and our staff
would love to see this special cat find a purrfect family.
