Friends
of the Friends For Life! Walk™ presented by Pedigree®
Lee Duguid is a friend of the Friends for Life! Walk. In her

$610. Now, 24 years later, Lee is still an active participant and, for
the past eight years, has been the top fundraiser in the province. She has
raised a total of over $79,000! When asked why Lee participates year after year
in the walk, her answer is simple, “I don’t feel people realize how much dogs
and animals do for us. We receive such loyalty and unconditional love from
animals and I think we should treat them as they treat us!”
Regardless of whether you raise $10 or $1,000 in the
Friends For Life! Walk, you are making a difference for animals in Ontario. Register today and help change
animals’ lives, one step at a time!

It’s kitten season and
we need your help
Kitten season is in full swing here at the Ontario SPCA Leeds
& Grenville Animal Centre. Liesel,
an approximately 10-month-old mother cat, recently came into our care ready to
burst with kittens. She was a found stray looking for a safe place to have her
litter.
We set her up in her kennel and she soon gave birth to four
kittens. These adorable balls of fluff are thriving and growing bigger with every
passing day.
Their happy little family now has an extra member.
When an orphaned kitten arrived at our centre that was about the same age as
Liesel’s babies, we introduced them and Liesel fortunately adopted it as one of
her own.
It’s no easy job nursing five kittens, but Liesel is being
housed in one of our cat suites where she can stretch and enjoy a bit of free
time away from her kittens when she needs a break.
Interested in helping the animals in our care? Visit our website
to see how you can support animals like Liesel and her kittens.

Dedicated volunteer
makes a difference
Volunteers are critical to our organization, which is why we
love shouting from the rooftop about what they accomplish for animals in need.
Josh is one of those dedicated volunteers.
Josh has been volunteering with the Ontario SPCA Leeds &
Grenville Animal Centre for two years now doing a variety of different
activities. He first became involved by helping at various events we host
annually, such as our Friends for Life! Walk™. He also helps out
when we visit community events to promote what we’re doing in the community.
We’re thrilled that Josh has recently started volunteering on a more consistent
basis. He has been devoting his Sunday mornings to socializing cats and helping
us with cleaning.
Thanks, Josh, for all your help! We couldn’t do what we do to
help animals in need without the support of volunteers like you!
Interested in becoming a volunteer? Visit our website for more
information on how you can get involved.

Bob finds his forever friend
Bob was in need of a special home that would be the perfect fit for him. He had been surrendered to the Ontario SPCA Stormont, Dundas & Glengarry Animal Centre, and then transferred to the Ontario SPCA Lennox & Addington Animal Centre before coming into our care.
Bob had been patiently looking for a home where he could be the “only child,” and that’s what he found when he met Dan.
It was a perfect match at first sight! These two plan on spending the rest of their days together.
We wish Bob and Dan all the best in their new friendship!

Got a Pet? Get a Vet!™ contest winner crowned
We would
like to congratulate this year’s Got a Pet? Get a Vet!™ contest winner, Dr.
Renee Ferguson and her clinic Mountain View
Veterinary Hospital
in Langley, BC!
The Ontario
SPCA launched this contest in association with the Ontario Veterinary Medical
Association (OVMA) and other participating SPCAs and Humane Societies across
Canada.
From April
24 to May 21, we asked pet owners to help us recognize veterinarians and
vet clinics that go above and beyond to provide excellent care for pets in
their community by submitting their vet, and voting.
The response was
incredible. During the contest we received 1,960 submissions from across
Canada. We’d like to
thank those who participated in this year’s contest, and congratulate all those
who were nominated for this award.

Northern dogs and cats are on their way to new homes
Close to 60 dogs, puppies, cats and kittens from Northern Ontario travelled south last month to find new homes thanks to a partnership between the Ontario SPCA’s Provincial Animal Transfer Team and two Indigenous communities.
By invitation to help the community manage its local dog population, the Ontario SPCA Provincial Animal Transfer Team worked with the Wabaseemoong Independent Nation, located 120 kilometres northwest of Kenora. The team also travelled to Mishkeegogamang First Nation, another community partner, where they picked up more dogs and puppies as well as some cats and kittens.
With support from volunteers and various partners, the animals were transferred to southern Ontario to be placed up for adoption with the help of the Ontario SPCA Animal Centres and the Welland & District SPCA.
Resources are always a challenge in Indigenous communities and access to veterinary care is very limited. We are pleased to be able to assist them by providing the resources they require for the animals in their community.
Thank you to everyone for their continued support of our Provincial Animal Transfer Program. To learn how you can support our re-homing efforts, visit ontariospca.ca
