Friends
of the Friends For Life! Walk™ presented by Pedigree®
Lee Duguid is a friend of the Friends for Life! Walk. In her
first year participating in the Friends for Life! Walk™ she raised a total of
$610. Now, 24 years later, Lee is still an active participant and, for
the past eight years, has been the top fundraiser in the province. She has
raised a total of over $79,000! When asked why Lee participates year after year
in the walk, her answer is simple, “I don’t feel people realize how much dogs
and animals do for us. We receive such loyalty and unconditional love from
animals and I think we should treat them as they treat us!”
Regardless of whether you raise $10 or $1,000 in the
Friends For Life! Walk, you are making a difference for animals in Ontario. Register today and help change
animals’ lives, one step at a time!

Puddin finds a new home to spend her golden years
Puddin, an 11-year-old Jack Russell Terrier,
was surrendered to us last year and was quickly adopted by a loving older
gentleman who adored her and took wonderful care of his new furry BFF.
Unfortunately, early this spring Puddin’s adopter had to move into a long-term
care facility that would not accept pets.
So, Puddin came back into our care. We shared
her story everywhere we could think of until she found her loving forever home.
She now lives on a country property with lots of other furry brothers and
sisters. She enjoys running through the fields and snuggling.
We wish Puddin all the best
in her new home

Jack is on the mend
In
late April, the Thunder Bay & District Humane Society reached out and asked
for our help with a special case dog named Jack.
Jack
is a two-year-old Shepherd that had been rescued from Fort Frances and was in
great need of medical care. His leg had been caught in a snare trap and they believe
he amputated his own foot in order to get free. Jack was sent to our animal
centre in Napanee to be housed and cared for while a team of veterinarians
neutered him and fit him with a prosthesis – all pro bono.
Jack
is a gentle, loving dog who has claimed all of our hearts here at the centre. We
can’t wait to see what comes next in his journey!

Watch for us at upcoming community events
This summer, the Ontario SPCA Lennox &
Addington Animal Centre is planning to visit as many local festivals and events
as we possibly can to get involved in our local communities and promote Animal
Welfare.
We want to raise awareness about No Hot Pets
and the dangers of leaving animals unattended in vehicles. Our Friends for
Life! Walk™ is also coming up, so we want to get as many people as possible
signed up early so they can begin walking and fundraising for animals in need.
Watch for us at the following events:
July 1 –
Bath Canada Day Parade
July 13-16 – The Odessa Fair
Aug. 4-7 – The Napanee Fair
July 22 – Aug. 19 – Napanee Farmers Market
If you like talking to people and enjoy the
busy festival atmosphere, we want to hear from you! We can always use extra
volunteers.

Got a Pet? Get a Vet!™ contest winner crowned
We would
like to congratulate this year’s Got a Pet? Get a Vet!™ contest winner, Dr.
Renee Ferguson and her clinic Mountain View
Veterinary Hospital
in Langley, BC!
The Ontario
SPCA launched this contest in association with the Ontario Veterinary Medical
Association (OVMA) and other participating SPCAs and Humane Societies across
Canada.
From April
24 to May 21, we asked pet owners to help us recognize veterinarians and
vet clinics that go above and beyond to provide excellent care for pets in
their community by submitting their vet, and voting.
The response was
incredible. During the contest we received 1,960 submissions from across
Canada. We’d like to
thank those who participated in this year’s contest, and congratulate all those
who were nominated for this award.

Northern dogs and cats are on their way to new homes
Close to 60 dogs, puppies, cats and kittens from Northern Ontario travelled south last month to find new homes thanks to a partnership between the Ontario SPCA’s Provincial Animal Transfer Team and two Indigenous communities.
By invitation to help the community manage its local dog population, the Ontario SPCA Provincial Animal Transfer Team worked with the Wabaseemoong Independent Nation, located 120 kilometres northwest of Kenora. The team also travelled to Mishkeegogamang First Nation, another community partner, where they picked up more dogs and puppies as well as some cats and kittens.
With support from volunteers and various partners, the animals were transferred to southern Ontario to be placed up for adoption with the help of the Ontario SPCA Animal Centres and the Welland & District SPCA.
Resources are always a challenge in Indigenous communities and access to veterinary care is very limited. We are pleased to be able to assist them by providing the resources they require for the animals in their community.
Thank you to everyone for their continued support of our Provincial Animal Transfer Program. To learn how you can support our re-homing efforts, visit ontariospca.ca
