Friends
of the Friends For Life! Walk™ presented by Pedigree®
Lee Duguid is a friend of the Friends for Life! Walk. In her

the past eight years, has been the top fundraiser in the province. She has
raised a total of over $79,000! When asked why Lee participates year after year
in the walk, her answer is simple, “I don’t feel people realize how much dogs
and animals do for us. We receive such loyalty and unconditional love from
animals and I think we should treat them as they treat us!”
Regardless of whether you raise $10 or $1,000 in the
Friends For Life! Walk, you are making a difference for animals in Ontario. Register today and help change
animals’ lives, one step at a time!

Local barns welcome cats through
adoption program
We
often have new feline arrivals here at the Ontario SPCA Midland & District
Animal Centre that are unable to cope in a home environment. This is no fault
of the cats, as they have either grown up outdoors or in barn environments, or
have not received the same positive interaction with people that most other
cats enjoy.
Did
you know we reach out to the rural community in search of suitable barns and
caretakers so these cats can also find a loving place to live our their days? We
have been able to spay or neuter and “re-barn” a number of cats so far and we
hope to continue this trend. Thank you to those who have opened their barns to
new feline farmhands!
If
you have space in your heart and barn for a cat, we are always in need of more
caretakers. For more information, call the animal centre at 705-534-4459.

Student volunteers make
a difference
We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again.
Our volunteers are fantastic and we couldn’t do what we do without them!
Every weekday morning, Crystal, Cassidy, Bri,
and Parker from the Georgian Bay District Secondary School help the staff with
our daily duties – even the messy ones. They have been so helpful with cleaning
and socializing our animals.
On behalf of everyone at the Ontario SPCA Midland
& District Animal Centre, thank you so much for all your hard work. We hope
you have an amazing summer holiday!

centre? Visit our website to learn more about volunteer opportunities.

the perfect gift for dad? We’ve got you covered. Click here now to see our catalogue of great gift
ideas. By choosing any of the gifts in our catalogue, you can give dad the joy
of knowing he’s helping save the lives of pets in need, just like his favourite
friend. With each gift, you can even send a custom e-card to dad’s e-mail with
a greeting, or print it out at home instead. Give care for a cat, or dog, or a
gift of urgent need.

vet clinics that go above and beyond to provide excellent care for pets in
their community by submitting their vet, and voting.
The response was
incredible. During the contest we received 1,960 submissions from across
Canada.

What you need to know before camping with your
pet
Planning a camping trip this summer?
If you’re thinking
of bringing your dog on your next adventure, here are some tips to keep in
mind to ensure it’s a positive experience for you, your pet and your fellow
campers.
Here’s what you need to know:
- Keep your dog on a leash of less than two metres at
all times.
- Pick up and dispose of your dog’s waste in the
garbage.
- Keep your dog from chasing/harassing wildlife.
- Use designated “dog beaches” only for swimming.
- If your dog is a “barker,” avoid the stress
and consider not bringing Fido on this trip.
- If bugs are bothering your dog, consult with
your veterinarian about the best bug repellent option for your pet.
- Be sure to check park regulations before
reserving your site as not all campgrounds allow dogs.
With these tips in mind, enjoy summer camping with your
dog!

Northern dogs
and cats are on their way to new homes
Close to 60 dogs, puppies, cats
and kittens from Northern Ontario travelled south last month to find new homes
thanks to a partnership between the Ontario SPCA’s Provincial Animal Transfer
Team and two Indigenous communities.
By invitation
to help the community manage its local dog population,
the Ontario SPCA Provincial Animal Transfer Team worked with the Wabaseemoong
Independent Nation, located 120 kilometres northwest of Kenora. The team also
travelled to Mishkeegogamang First Nation, another community partner, where
they picked up more dogs and puppies as well as some cats and kittens.
With support from volunteers and
various partners, the animals were transferred to southern Ontario to be placed
up for adoption with the help of the Ontario SPCA Animal Centres and the
Welland & District SPCA.
Resources
are always a challenge in Indigenous communities and access to veterinary care
is very limited. We are pleased to be able to assist them by providing the
resources they require for the animals in their community.
Thank you to
everyone for their continued support of our Provincial Animal Transfer Program.
