Friends
of the Friends For Life! Walk™ presented by Pedigree®
Lee Duguid is a friend of the Friends for Life! Walk. In her

and animals do for us. We receive such loyalty and unconditional love from
animals and I think we should treat them as they treat us!”

Friends For Life! Walk, you are making a difference for animals in Ontario. Register today and help change

Making a difference in the lives of cats
Our cats just love Forrest and Samantha! These cat
enthusiasts are here every week spending hours with our kitties and providing
enrichment through socialization, reading to them, grooming and just generally
loving them.
Forrest makes sure she provides every form of
enrichment that is listed on each cat’s chart. The kitties thoroughly enjoy
their time with these dedicated volunteers.
Soft purrs to Forrest and Samantha for making a difference
in the lives of the cats at the Ontario SPCA Orillia Animal Centre.

Mike met his match
Mike is a very funny, and handsome, cat who stayed in our
care for just under a month before his silly antics caught the eye of a
potential adopter. During his stay with us, he was always clowning around and hanging upside
down on his Kuranda bed. He was always the first to greet
new visitors and has a loveable personality that our staff fell in love with.
After waiting patiently to meet his match, he was adopted!
He’s gone to a new home and has a new feline brother named Oreo to play with.
We wish Mike and his new family all the best!

Can you help Maddy on
her road to recovery?
Maddy is an eight-year-old Shih
Tzu who was found at the side of the road in Orillia after a near-miss with a
car. As if that wasn’t traumatic enough for Maddy, she was nearly hit because her fur was so matted that she couldn’t move
her legs to avoid oncoming traffic and keep herself safe. Maddy’s nails were so severely
overgrown that her fur was tangled around them making movement nearly
impossible.
After being rushed to a veterinary clinic,
technicians spent three hours removing the mats covering her body. Under the
tangled, dirty hair they discovered Maddy was suffering from dry eye, dental
disease and skin and coat issues.
Maddy is now recovering at the Ontario SPCA Orillia Animal Centre. Her cost of
care is expected to exceed $2,500. To help recover some of the costs associated
with Maddy’s care, an urgent appeal fundraising page has been set up. To make a
donation, visit orillia.ontariospca.ca, call (705) 325-1304 or drop by the
centre at 467 West Street North in Orillia.
Thanks to the support from people like you in our
community, we are able to give dogs like Maddy a second chance.

Got a Pet? Get a Vet!™ contest winner crowned
We would
like to congratulate this year’s Got a Pet? Get a Vet!™ contest winner, Dr.
Renee Ferguson and her clinic Mountain View
Veterinary Hospital
in Langley, BC!
The Ontario
SPCA launched this contest in association with the Ontario Veterinary Medical
Association (OVMA) and other participating SPCAs and Humane Societies across
Canada.
From April
24 to May 21, we asked pet owners to help us recognize veterinarians and
vet clinics that go above and beyond to provide excellent care for pets in
their community by submitting their vet, and voting.
The response was
incredible. During the contest we received 1,960 submissions from across
Canada. We’d like to
thank those who participated in this year’s contest, and congratulate all those
who were nominated for this award.

Northern dogs and cats are on their way to new homes
Close to 60 dogs, puppies, cats and kittens from Northern Ontario travelled south last month to find new homes thanks to a partnership between the Ontario SPCA’s Provincial Animal Transfer Team and two Indigenous communities.
By invitation to help the community manage its local dog population, the Ontario SPCA Provincial Animal Transfer Team worked with the Wabaseemoong Independent Nation, located 120 kilometres northwest of Kenora. The team also travelled to Mishkeegogamang First Nation, another community partner, where they picked up more dogs and puppies as well as some cats and kittens.
With support from volunteers and various partners, the animals were transferred to southern Ontario to be placed up for adoption with the help of the Ontario SPCA Animal Centres and the Welland & District SPCA.
Resources are always a challenge in Indigenous communities and access to veterinary care is very limited. We are pleased to be able to assist them by providing the resources they require for the animals in their community.
Thank you to everyone for their continued support of our Provincial Animal Transfer Program. To learn how you can support our re-homing efforts, visit ontariospca.ca
