Friends
of the Friends For Life! Walk™ presented by Pedigree®
Lee Duguid is a friend of the Friends for Life! Walk. In her
first year participating in the Friends for Life! Walk™ she raised a total of
$610. Now, 24 years later, Lee is still an active participant and, for

raised a total of over $79,000! When asked why Lee participates year after year
in the walk, her answer is simple, “I don’t feel people realize how much dogs
and animals do for us. We receive such loyalty and unconditional love from
animals and I think we should treat them as they treat us!”
Regardless of whether you raise $10 or $1,000 in the
Friends For Life! Walk, you are making a difference for animals in Ontario. Register today and help change

Tiny kittens found abandoned in box
Minutes
before a big storm of rain and hail hit our area back in April, a litter of
kittens lost more than their mittens! They were abandoned in a box outside on a
trail without their mom, and left to fend for themselves at the tender age of
only three weeks old.
Thanks
to the help of a caring citizen, these five kitties were brought to the Ontario
SPCA Sudbury & District Animal Centre and were provided with the warmth,
care and shelter they needed. All kittens are doing well and are currently
available for adoption. Drop by our animal centre to meet them, or visit our
adoption page online.

Turnip
beat the odds
Turnip was born at the Ontario SPCA Sudbury
& District Animal Centre on Jan. 28, 2017. When he was two weeks old,
Turnip was diagnosed with an upper respiratory infection. There was only a slight
chance that Turnip would survive because he was so small.
The day he was diagnosed, he was separated from
his mother and littermates and placed into foster care. Despite the odds
stacked against him, every day Turnip got stronger and stronger. Before long he
was eating well and the medication had started to work.
Now four months old, he was recently adopted into
a loving home. We wish him and his new owners all the best!

pack for you and your pet!

the perfect gift for dad? We’ve got you covered. Click here now to see our catalogue of great gift
ideas. By choosing any of the gifts in our catalogue, you can give dad the joy
of knowing he’s helping save the lives of pets in need, just like his favourite
friend. With each gift, you can even send a custom e-card to dad’s e-mail with
a greeting, or print it out at home instead. Give care for a cat, or dog, or a
gift of urgent need.

What you need to know before camping with your pet
Planning a camping trip this summer?
If you’re thinking of bringing your dog on your next adventure, here are some tips to keep in mind to ensure it’s a positive experience for you, your pet and your fellow campers. Here’s what you need to know:
- Keep your dog on a leash of less than two metres at all times.
- Pick up and dispose of your dog’s waste in the garbage.
- Keep your dog from chasing/harassing wildlife.
- Use designated “dog beaches” only for swimming.
- If your dog is a “barker,” avoid the stress and consider not bringing Fido on this trip.
- If bugs are bothering your dog, consult with your veterinarian about the best bug repellent option for your pet.
- Be sure to check park regulations before reserving your site as not all campgrounds allow dogs.
With these tips in mind, enjoy summer camping with your dog!

Got a Pet? Get a Vet!™ contest winner crowned
We would like to congratulate this year’s Got a Pet? Get a Vet!™ contest winner, Dr. Renee Ferguson and her clinic Mountain View Veterinary Hospital in Langley, BC!
The Ontario SPCA launched this contest in association with the Ontario Veterinary Medical Association (OVMA) and other participating SPCAs and Humane Societies across Canada.
From April 24 to May 21, we asked pet owners to help us recognize veterinarians and vet clinics that go above and beyond to provide excellent care for pets in their community by submitting their vet, and voting.
The response was incredible. During the contest we received 1,960 submissions from across Canada.
We’d like to thank those who participated in this year’s contest, and congratulate all those who were nominated for this award.

One tough cookie found a sweet home
Sadie was surrendered to the Ontario SPCA Sudbury
& District Animal Centre on May 9 when her owner could no longer look after
her. She is a 10-year-old spayed female Shih Tzu-type dog and is white and buff
in colour.
It has been about a month since this sweet girl
came into our care. During that time she was spayed, has had mammary tumors and
glands removed, and has also had a very large urinary stone mass removed. Sadie
is now on a special diet for prevention of urinary stones and has recovered
well.
This happy little girl loves nothing more than
to be by someone’s side and is the friendliest, cutest and most playful dog you
could ever meet.
We’re thrilled to report that Sadie recently found a loving
home to call her own. Good luck at your new home, Sadie!
