Businesses
pledge support for No Hot Pets
To help spread awareness about the dangers of leaving
pets unattended in vehicles, and to assist pet owners, the Ontario SPCA is
encouraging businesses across the province to take part in its annual No Hot
Pets campaign.
Through this new initiative, businesses that pledge
their support for our No Hot Pets campaign will receive a digital sign that
they can print and display in their store window, letting pet owners know they
can bring their animals inside while they shop or do business. They will also
be added to a growing list
of participating businesses on the No Hot Pets website,
nohotpets.ca
To date, over 500 businesses in towns and cities
across Ontario have joined the No Hot Pets cause. Interested in joining the
growing list of businesses that support No Hot Pets? Take the pledge at
nohotpets.ca and email nohotpets@ospca.on.ca to receive your digital sign.

Rescue & Relief Services helps close to 90 cats in Cornwall
When the cat overpopulation in Cornwall recently spiked, the Ontario SPCA recognized the urgency of the situation and took action.
On July 6, the Ontario SPCA Rescue & Relief Services rolled into the City of Cornwall to offer support to the dedicated citizens currently providing foster care for the stray animals in the Cornwall region, which has historically faced challenges with cat overpopulation.
Close to 90 cats and kittens were surrendered to the Society. All the cats and kittens will go through our adoption process. To make room for these new arrivals, all adoptable cats being sheltered at the Ontario SPCA Stormont, Dundas & Glengarry Animal Centre were transferred to other animal care centres throughout the province for adoption.
This situation is urgent and, on behalf of the animals in need, the Society will continue to support community-based efforts and will continue be available to the City of Cornwall to assist them in getting solution-based resources in place.
If you want to support these services and the care of these animals please visit our website to make a donation.

Co-op student learned
new skills and made new friends
We’ve
said it before and we’ll say it again; we couldn’t do what we do without the
support of dedicated volunteers. One of our youngest volunteers is Jaden Gaudette
of Holy Trinity Catholic Secondary School in Cornwall. He recently completed
five months of his school co-op placement with the Stormont, Dundas &
Glengarry Animal Centre.
During
his time with us, Jaden had such a positive impact on the dogs in our care. He
performed great work and really enjoyed walking the dogs and playing with them.
While that might sound like fun and games, spending
time with our dogs is a very important volunteer role as it provides them with
the necessary enrichment they need.
Thank
you, Jaden, for all your hard work. We wish you all the best in whatever future
endeavours you decide to pursue.

Celebrating our 100,000th
spay/neuter procedure
The
Ontario SPCA and Humane Society has reached a major milestone, performing our
100,000th spay/neuter procedure since we began offering high volume
spay/neuter services to the public.
As part of a larger provincial
strategy to help reduce pet overpopulation, the Ontario SPCA began offering high quality, high volume and self-sustaining spay/neuter
services to the public in 2009 when we opened the Ontario SPCA Centre
Veterinary Hospital near Newmarket.
Mirroring the success of that
service, the Ontario SPCA Marion Vernon
Memorial Animal Clinic in Barrie transitioned that same year to exclusively offer high-volume spay/neuter services.
Based on a conservative estimate of average litter size and how many
litters can be produced annually by every unfixed female, the number of female
cats and dogs that have been spayed to date could have produced more than
6,152,000 kittens and 1,338,000 puppies, respectively.

North Star Air Ltd.
makes $30k donation
The Ontario SPCA
and Humane Society was given a boost to continue to provide support and
services to remote Indigenous communities in northern Ontario thanks to a
$30,000 donation by North Star Air Ltd.
Over the last two
years, the long-time air transport service provider and partner to the remote
northern communities has teamed up with the Ontario SPCA, local groups,
Indigenous communities and Humane Societies across Ontario to help find new
homes for over 140 northern dogs.
Recently, close to 20 dogs and puppies arrived in Thunder
Bay from Big Trout Lake with North Star Air’s assistance. Volunteer
veterinarians accompanied the canines after a spay/neuter clinic in the
community. The animals then travelled to Southern Ontario where they were
placed up for adoption. North Star Air assisted in the project by providing air
service for the volunteer teams to travel to the remote community and to
transport the animals back to Thunder Bay.

Cornwall Community Cheer raises $600
We live in such a great, supportive community! We were recently reminded of that when Cornwall Community Cheer, a not-for-profit organization that raises funds for local charities, made a donation to the Ontario SPCA Stormont, Dundas & Glengarry Animal Centre.
Representative Debbie Duval presented $600 collected from a Paint Nite fundraiser they held in February in support of National Cupcake Day™ for SPCAs & Humane Societies.
Thank you, Cornwall Community Cheer!

Elsa found her
forever home
We
love sharing happy stories with you and this time that happy story belongs to
Elsa! We’re thrilled to tell you that she has found a loving family to call her
own.
This
friendly Shar-Pei cross had been in the care of the Ontario SPCA for two months
before she found her forever home. She waited patiently for that special
someone to come along and see what a wonderful friend she could make. That
day recently arrived when Elsa’s new “mom,” Tara Cassidy, met her. Elsa’s calm,
well-mannered temperament and friendly personality won Tara over, and the rest,
as they say, is history.
We were filled with joy to see Elsa walk out of our
centre on the way to her new home. She not only has a
family who loves her, but she will now also be able to enjoy the company of her
new doggy brother. We wish Elsa all the best in her new home.

in meeting your match? Drop by our animal centre or visit our adoption page
