Your pet can be the next "Cone of Fame" star!
March is Fix Your Pet Month and we are celebrating with the "Cone of Fame" contest.
Share a photo with us of your pet in their cone using #ConeOfFame on Instagram or Twitter to be entered for weekly prizes. Then take the pledge at fixyourpet.ca to say you have or will fix your pet.

2018 Declared Year of the Northern Dog
The issue of Northern dog overpopulation is escalating across Canada. In response to many caring and compassionate Northern Communities, the Ontario SPCA and its partners have developed a network of individuals, organizations and communities aimed at bringing awareness to the issue and working alongside Northern communities with a common goal - to save dogs' lives.
Many barriers exist in the North that do not exist in the South and everyone has a role to play in creating a healthy community for dogs and people.
How you can make a difference:
- Learn about pet overpopulation in the North – spread the word via your social media channels.
- Donate much needed funds, supplies or resources to a program partner.
- Adopt a Northern Dog. Sign up to receive e-blasts when Northern dogs become available.
- Volunteer to become a volunteer driver, a volunteer dog walker, or volunteer with your unique skills.

Canine Influenza in Ontario!
H3N2 CIV has been found in multiple locations in Ontario. It is a virus that is highly contagious between dogs. This virus can be transmitted through direct contact (nose to nose), indirect contact (items and people contaminated by the virus) and aerosol transmission (coughing).
H3N2 CIV can affect dogs of any age, although it is more severe in the very young and old. The symptoms of this virus include: sneezing, nasal discharge, lethargy, fever and decreased appetite. If your dog has any of these symptoms, contact your veterinarian.
Vaccines are available to protect your dog from canine influenza. Speak to your veterinarian about vaccination.

Small act of kindness gets paid forward
Robin, a once homeless kitten, has been given her second chance by an eight-year-old boy with a heart as big as his smile. Birthday boy Drake requested donations for the animals at the Ontario SPCA Renfrew County Animal Centre in lieu of presents for himself.
When Drake stopped by Pet Valu, our offsite adoption partner, he met Robin who was waiting to be adopted. Drake immediately knew that she was the one he wanted to help and used his birthday donations to pay for the adoption fee so that Robin could find a loving family.
Robin caught the eye of a wonderful family that ultimately fell in love and adopted her. Upon learning of Drake’s act of kindness, they too decided to sponsor a cat’s adoption fee and help another animal in need. |
Sun, rain, sleet or snow, volunteer Sandy is always good to go!
Volunteer Sandy arrives with a smile even on the coldest of days, ready to make a difference. She always takes time with each and every dog to make them feel special and loved. Sandy is also an integral part of the Northern Dog Transfer Program and is currently fostering a remarkable Northern dog named Yoda.
With many cats presently in our care, Sandy has also been spreading her love around with our feline residents. She is a great ambassador for the Ontario SPCA Renfrew County Animal Centre and attends many events. Sandy’s genuine spirit is invaluable and we are so grateful for her ongoing support! Thank you Sandy for everything you do! |

Recycling helps more than the environment
Your unwanted electronics can help animals in need! Simply drop off your unwanted electronic recycling at the Ontario SPCA Renfrew County Animal Centre during our regular business hours, Monday to Friday, from 10:30am to 5pm, and weekends from 10:30am to 4pm.
We will gladly accept your old computers, printers and more. Click here for a complete list of electronics that are accepted as part of this program.
