Northern dogs ready to find new homes
Another group of Northern dogs has been successfully transferred to find loving homes and they’re now starting to become available for adoption at various locations across the province.
On April 27, a group of 21 dogs touched down in Thunder Bay on a journey to Central Ontario. The dogs were flown into Thunder Bay by North Star Air Ltd. where they were cared for by volunteers before embarking on the next phase of their journey.

ASPCA releases top 10 toxins of 2017
Every year, the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center (APCC) compiles data based on cases of potential poisonings. The list is a great benchmark identifying hazardous trends that could be fatal to our furry companions.
For the second year in a row, human prescription medications topped the list, barely surpassing over- the- counter medication and supplements.
Many common household items can be extremely toxic if ingested by pets. Read the ASPCA’s list of Top 10 Animal Toxins of 2017 to learn more and prevent your pet from being a statistic.

From abandoned and alone to adored and adopted
Daisy, a sweet Terrier mix, was found alone and scared on the front steps of our local Town Hall. A caring Animal Control Officer was able to gently coax the hesitant little pup into her arms and brought her to the Ontario SPCA Renfrew County Animal Centre.
It didn’t take long for Daisy to come out of her shell and we are thrilled to report the she has since found her forever home. Daisy is now snuggling up with her new family and we couldn’t be happier that she has been given the second chance she deserves.

Dedicated volunteers truly make a difference
Although National Volunteer Week is behind us, we are reminded daily of the significant contribution volunteers make to the wellbeing of the animals in our care!
Norma and Brian have volunteered their time and expertise for over 18 years. From fostering animals in need, to organizing events and running successful online auctions, this dynamic duo is always willing to lend a hand.
We are very fortunate that our volunteers share their heart, passion, and energy with us in so many different ways! Thank you for continuing to make a difference in the lives of these animals!

Jinx gives birth to a healthy litter
Jinx, a sweet tortoiseshell cat, came to us very pregnant and in need of care. After being examined, she was placed in foster care where she could rest comfortably as she waited to go into labour.
We are happy to report that Jinx had seven incredibly adorable, healthy kittens. Jinx, being polydactyl, (having extra toes), passed on her genes to five of her babies. “Toes-titos”, pictured above, will soon be ready for adoption.
A special thank you to all our wonderful foster families for finding room in their hearts and homes to help animals get the second change they deserve. |
