Northern dogs ready to find new homes

Another group of Northern dogs has been successfully transferred to find loving homes and they’re now starting to become available for adoption at various locations across the province.

On April 27, a group of 21 dogs touched down in Thunder Bay on a journey to Central Ontario. The dogs were flown into Thunder Bay by North Star Air Ltd. where they were cared for by volunteers before embarking on the next phase of their journey.

ASPCA releases top 10 toxins of 2017

Every year, the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center (APCC) compiles data based on cases of potential poisonings. The list is a great benchmark identifying hazardous trends that could be fatal to our furry companions.

For the second year in a row, human prescription medications topped the list, barely surpassing over- the- counter medication and supplements.

Many common household items can be extremely toxic if ingested by pets. Read the ASPCA’s list of Top 10 Animal Toxins of 2017 to learn more and prevent your pet from being a statistic.

Hannah goes over and above for the animals

This month, we would like to highlight a wonderful young lady by the name of Hannah who truly goes the extra mile for the animals in our care. Hannah joined the volunteer team last year and has since become an integral part of our dog enrichment program, ensuring that all dogs get walked when she comes in.

While she tries not to play favorites, Hannah bonded with one of our long term residents Zeusy and was thrilled when a family showed interest in adopting him. She is currently working with the potential adopters to showcase Zeusy’s talents and help this gentle giant transition into his new home.

Thank you Hannah for your dedication to Zeusy and all the animals in our care.

Chip the bunny   Orillia Golf Tournament
A hoppy tale for Chip

Our friendly boy Chip arrived at the Ontario SCPA Orillia Animal Centre as a stray. This poor bunny was not hopping like most rabbits and it appeared that there may have been some lameness to one of his legs.

After a thorough veterinarian examination, it was determined that Chip was suffering from arthritis and will never have full use of one of his hind legs. Thankfully, Chip can still live a normal rabbit life and do most things without any problems however, getting around as quickly as some of his friends will be a challenge. We are thrilled to report that Chip found the perfect Mom who is willing to give him the daily medication he will need for the rest of his life!

We wish Chip the hoppiest life in his new home!
