Don Cherry No Hot Pets

Don Cherry wants you to know there's never an excuse for leaving a pet unattended in a vehicle. If you find a pet unattended in a hot vehicle, call 310-SPCA (7722) in Ontario or your local police department.

Businesses pledge support for No Hot Pets

Last year, the Ontario SPCA launched its pet friendly business directory in support of the No Hot Pets campaign. The directory was a huge success with hundreds of businesses across the province taking the pledge and helping spread the awareness of the dangers of leaving pets unattended in vehicles.

The 2018 Pet Friendly Business Directory is now available!

Businesses who sign up to show their commitment to keeping pets cool this summer will receive a printable sign to display in their store window, letting pet owners know they can bring their animals inside while they shop or do business.

Road trip with your pet?

Summer is a great time to get in your car and embark on an adventure! If you plan to bring pets with you though, it’s important to keep a few important safety tips in mind.

Road trips are generally the easiest and most relaxing way to travel with your pet. Train your pet to travel in a car by taking them on lots of short car trips to places they love. For your pet’s safety and your own, confine them to the back seat, either in a carrier or pet seatbelt (a special harness that attaches to the car’s seatbelt).

Keep your pet comfortable throughout the trip. Read the blog Road trip with your pet for tips to prepare for a great adventure with your pet. Make sure you have a plan in place so your pets are never left unattended in your vehicle.

Erin and family with new puppy
SDG Dog Run
Family finds love again

Staff at the Ontario SPCA Stormont, Dundas & Glengarry Animal Centre were crying tears of happiness thanks to a heartfelt adoption. A family had recently lost their long time family pet and mom, Erin, wanted to fill the void left by their beloved dog. One day, Erin decided to pick up her kids from school under the pretense that they had a dentist appointment, but needed to make a quick stop first.

They made their way to the Animal Centre where their new family member was waiting to surprise them. The look on their faces was priceless and the emotions poured out of their little hearts when they realized that one of our Northern puppies was coming home with them.

We are so grateful to be part of this beautiful moment!
Volunteers help with a weedy situation

Come Spring, the dog runs at the Ontario SPCA Stormont, Dundas & Glengarry Animal Centre get overrun by weeds. It’s quite an overwhelming task to clear it out for the dogs to enjoy. But this year, thanks to Rosanne and her wonderful team of volunteers, staff didn’t have to worry about the daunting task of tackling the weedy situation in the back area.

The volunteers spent countless hours, rain or shine, to make the runs dog-ready for our furry little friends to enjoy. We can’t thank them enough for all their hard work!
