Don Cherry No Hot Pets

Don Cherry wants you to know there's never an excuse for leaving a pet unattended in a vehicle. If you find a pet unattended in a hot vehicle, call 310-SPCA (7722) in Ontario or your local police department.

Businesses pledge support for No Hot Pets

Last year, the Ontario SPCA launched its pet friendly business directory in support of the No Hot Pets campaign. The directory was a huge success with hundreds of businesses across the province taking the pledge and helping spread the awareness of the dangers of leaving pets unattended in vehicles.

The 2018 Pet Friendly Business Directory is now available!

Businesses who sign up to show their commitment to keeping pets cool this summer will receive a printable sign to display in their store window, letting pet owners know they can bring their animals inside while they shop or do business.

Yoda

Introducing Yoda! Our 2018 Friends for Life! Walk™ Spokes Animal

We are thrilled to have Yoda as this year’s spokes animal for the 2018 Friends for Life! Walk™ taking place Saturday, September 22 at the Pembroke Marina.

Yoda was included in a transfer from a remote Northern community last summer, found homeless and fending for himself. He also tested positive for heartworm and required rigorous treatment.

It took almost a full year of ongoing care to finally rid him of his deadly heartworms. Luckily, a volunteer named Sandy brought Yoda in as a foster and took great care of him. Yoda is now fully recovered and enjoying life with his loving parents and two feline siblings Shorty and Spook.

Yoda's life has already taken a step in the right direction! Let's walk together, changing the lives of more animals, one step at a time!

Road trip with your pet?

Summer is a great time to get in your car and embark on an adventure! If you plan to bring pets with you though, it’s important to keep a few important safety tips in mind.

Road trips are generally the easiest and most relaxing way to travel with your pet. Train your pet to travel in a car by taking them on lots of short car trips to places they love. For your pet’s safety and your own, confine them to the back seat, either in a carrier or pet seatbelt (a special harness that attaches to the car’s seatbelt).

Keep your pet comfortable throughout the trip. Read the blog Road trip with your pet for tips to prepare for a great adventure with your pet. Make sure you have a plan in place so your pets are never left unattended in your vehicle.

Ruth
Baukey
Ruth keeps the kittens happy

Cat enrichment is so important both physically and emotionally for our feline friends and thanks to volunteers like Ruth, the cats in our care get their daily dose of stimulation.

Ruth comes in to the Ontario SPCA Renfrew County Animal Centre and dedicates her time to the cats to help them feel loved. Ruth always takes the time to create a stimulating, safe environment for all our feline friends.

Volunteers like Ruth continue to make a pawsitive difference for our animals!
Pregnant and alone

Bailey came into the care of the Ontario SPCA Renfrew County Animal Centre very pregnant and all alone. We reached out to find her owners, but sadly no one came forward. Luckily, a wonderful lady by the name of Lana took Bailey in and fostered her and her kittens for many months.

We are happy to report, all of Bailey’s kittens were adopted, and Bailey herself has been adopted by her foster mom. Bailey is pictured above in Lana’s arms which her mom reports is one of her favorite spots.
