Don Cherry No Hot Pets

Don Cherry wants you to know there's never an excuse for leaving a pet unattended in a vehicle. If you find a pet unattended in a hot vehicle, call 310-SPCA (7722) in Ontario or your local police department.

Businesses pledge support for No Hot Pets

Last year, the Ontario SPCA launched its pet friendly business directory in support of the No Hot Pets campaign. The directory was a huge success with hundreds of businesses across the province taking the pledge and helping spread the awareness of the dangers of leaving pets unattended in vehicles.

The 2018 Pet Friendly Business Directory is now available!

Businesses who sign up to show their commitment to keeping pets cool this summer will receive a printable sign to display in their store window, letting pet owners know they can bring their animals inside while they shop or do business.

High school project leads to donations for the animals

The Ontario SPCA Provincial Education & Animal Centre depends greatly on generous donations from our community supporters to directly help animals in need. Jack Banister is one of these exceptional supporters. Sparked by a high school civics project at Huron Heights Secondary School in Newmarket, Jack chose the Ontario SPCA as his charity of choice.

The average cost for each animal to stay in our shelter is approximately $450 for cats and $570 for dogs. Jack knew he wanted to make a significant impact on the animals so he decided to raise money by mowing lawns. He then came into the Animal Centre with food, toys and towels as well as $1290 which he raised with support from family and friends. To honour his hard work and dedication to the animals, Jack was given a behind-the-scenes tour to see how our staff and volunteers work together to help animals in need.

Thank you Jack for being a great supporter of animal welfare!
Road trip with your pet?

Summer is a great time to get in your car and embark on an adventure! If you plan to bring pets with you though, it’s important to keep a few important safety tips in mind.

Road trips are generally the easiest and most relaxing way to travel with your pet. Train your pet to travel in a car by taking them on lots of short car trips to places they love. For your pet’s safety and your own, confine them to the back seat, either in a carrier or pet seatbelt (a special harness that attaches to the car’s seatbelt).

Keep your pet comfortable throughout the trip. Read the blog Road trip with your pet for tips to prepare for a great adventure with your pet. Make sure you have a plan in place so your pets are never left unattended in your vehicle.

The Ontario SPCA Provincial Education & Animal Centre (PEAC), in partnership with the Ontario Charitable Gaming Association have come together to support homeless animals through Bingo gaming proceeds.

When you participate in charitable bingo or purchase a “Break Open” lottery ticket, a portion of proceeds are donated directly to the Ontario SPCA to help provide surgeries, medication, and daily care to the animals at our Centre.

Paws up for Pride!

Last month, the Ontario SPCA Provincial Education & Animals Centre was delighted to take part in another wonderful Toronto Pride Festival. Rainy weather filled our puppy pools, but it didn’t stop festival goers from popping by the Ontario SPCA booth.

Torontonians and tourists definitely showed their support with over $2500 raised in donations for animal welfare in just two days. Thank you to our dedicated volunteers, and community supporters who came out to participate in this event.

Keep an eye on our Events page for information about upcoming events.
