Don Cherry No Hot Pets

Don Cherry wants you to know there's never an excuse for leaving a pet unattended in a vehicle. If you find a pet unattended in a hot vehicle, call 310-SPCA (7722) in Ontario or your local police department.

Businesses pledge support for No Hot Pets

Last year, the Ontario SPCA launched its pet friendly business directory in support of the No Hot Pets campaign. The directory was a huge success with hundreds of businesses across the province taking the pledge and helping spread the awareness of the dangers of leaving pets unattended in vehicles.

The 2018 Pet Friendly Business Directory is now available!

Businesses who sign up to show their commitment to keeping pets cool this summer will receive a printable sign to display in their store window, letting pet owners know they can bring their animals inside while they shop or do business.

Road trip with your pet?

Summer is a great time to get in your car and embark on an adventure! If you plan to bring pets with you though, it’s important to keep a few important safety tips in mind.

Road trips are generally the easiest and most relaxing way to travel with your pet. Train your pet to travel in a car by taking them on lots of short car trips to places they love. For your pet’s safety and your own, confine them to the back seat, either in a carrier or pet seatbelt (a special harness that attaches to the car’s seatbelt).

Keep your pet comfortable throughout the trip. Read the blog Road trip with your pet for tips to prepare for a great adventure with your pet. Make sure you have a plan in place so your pets are never left unattended in your vehicle.

Munchkin

A visit to the vet helps Munchkin get a second chance

Sometimes, a quick visit to the vet can make a world of difference. That was the case for Munchkin, a sweet little cat that was surrendered into the care of the Ontario SPCA Midland & District Animal Centre due to poor litter box habits.

We suspected that Munchkin’s inappropriate urination may have been caused by a medical issue so we brought her in for a health care assessment. Tests confirmed that Munchkin was suffering from a urinary tract infection and crystals were found in her urine. We treated her with antibiotics and placed her on a special diet.

It didn’t take long for Munchkin to start feeling better and she wooed her way into her new owner’s heart. Munchkin is now enjoying her second chance in a wonderful home with lots of love.
Volunteer makes an impact on the animals in our care

Just when we thought our volunteer team couldn’t get any better, Michael came through our doors with a great deal of passion for the animals. Michael started volunteering at the Ontario SPCA Midland & District Animal Centre at the beginning of June, and in such a short time, has already made a big impact.

Michael understands the importance of socializing with all the animals in our care and never hesitates to give them a little extra dose of TLC. He reads to the cats and ensures they receive quality play time, and also walks the dogs and provides them with enrichment.

We are truly grateful for the dedication Michael has for volunteering and helping the animals in our care. Thank you for being part of our amazing team of volunteers.
