July 2018

Ahhh summertime! We have a lot of great things happening here at the Ontario SPCA Leeds & Grenville Animal Centre. Our day camps started the first week of July, we’re holding community BBQs throughout the area, and our Friends For Life! Walk™ is taking place on Saturday, September 22nd in downtown Brockville. We hope you can join us for some of our great events in support of the homeless animals in our community.

Don Cherry No Hot Pets

Don Cherry wants you to know there's never an excuse for leaving a pet unattended in a vehicle. If you find a pet unattended in a hot vehicle, call 310-SPCA (7722) in Ontario or your local police department.

Businesses pledge support for No Hot Pets

Last year, the Ontario SPCA launched its pet friendly business directory in support of the No Hot Pets campaign. The directory was a huge success with hundreds of businesses across the province taking the pledge and helping spread the awareness of the dangers of leaving pets unattended in vehicles.

The 2018 Pet Friendly Business Directory is now available!

Businesses who sign up to show their commitment to keeping pets cool this summer will receive a printable sign to display in their store window, letting pet owners know they can bring their animals inside while they shop or do business.

Moving your pet to a new home

Having to move from one place to another can be quite a stressful ordeal on its own. Add pets to the mix and there’s even more to think about before making the transition. From selecting your new home to unpacking that final box, the ASPCA has some fantastic tips on how to make the move a smooth one while minimizing the amount of stress on your pets.

Find out how you can you help make your move easier on your pets by reading the blog How to successfully move homes with your pet.
Road trip with your pet?

Summer is a great time to get in your car and embark on an adventure! If you plan to bring pets with you though, it’s important to keep a few important safety tips in mind.

Road trips are generally the easiest and most relaxing way to travel with your pet. Train your pet to travel in a car by taking them on lots of short car trips to places they love. For your pet’s safety and your own, confine them to the back seat, either in a carrier or pet seatbelt (a special harness that attaches to the car’s seatbelt).

Keep your pet comfortable throughout the trip. Read the blog Road trip with your pet for tips to prepare for a great adventure with your pet. Make sure you have a plan in place so your pets are never left unattended in your vehicle.

Annual yard sale and BBQ raises funds for animals

The Ontario SPCA Leeds & Grenville Animal Centre held its annual yard sale and BBQ on June 1st and we were thrilled with the success of the event. With the help of key volunteers like Nelson, Dianne, Rosemary, Linda, Lisa and Al (pictured above), along with many others, the event raised over $1500 towards our team's goal for our Friends for Life! Walk™.

Thank you to everyone who donated items, came out to enjoy a good bargain, and supported the animals in our community.
Volunteer selected to attend annual conference for animal welfare

We're lucky to have great volunteers that dedicate their time to the animals in our care waiting to find their forever homes.

This year, one of our volunteers, Spencer, was selected to attend the Ontario SPCA’s annual Animal Welfare Conference at the beginning of June.

This is just a small way for us to say thank you for the dedication that Spencer and all our volunteers show towards our Centre.

Looking for a rewarding volunteer opportunity? Make a difference in the lives of animals and apply today to join our team of amazing volunteers.
