Know the signs of heatstroke

Spending an afternoon in the garden or a day on the trails? When it’s hot outside, even the most responsible pet owners might be at risk of their pet experiencing heatstroke. Increased heart rate, excessive panting or drooling and listlessness are some of the signs that your pet might be in danger. Keep your pets safe by learning the signs and what to do if your pet suffers from heatstroke.

If you plan on bringing your pets along for the adventure, read our blog Pets and boats: Boating safety tips. We hope these tips help you and your dog have a safe and fun-filled summer boating and swimming!

A happy tale about Joy

Joy, a Golden Retriever mix dog came into the care of the Ontario SPCA Leeds & Grenville Animal Centre along with several other dogs. Sadly, Joy was in rough shape and was suffering from a life-threatening internal infection. She required extensive surgery, but thanks to the wonderful work of a dedicated team of animal care professionals, Joy got a second chance at life!

Joy has fully recovered and is doing very well in her new home. We think she's appropriately named, as she is bringing such happiness to her new family.

Thinking of adding a cat to the family? Come and meet five-year-old Charlie! He is super friendly and gets along great with other cats.

Charlie came to the Ontario SPCA Leeds & Grenville Animal Centre over a month ago through our Investigations team. We don’t know much about his past, but we do know that this sweet boy deserves a second chance and would make a wonderful companion.
