Helping the homeless and their pets

For the most part, homeless pet owners provide the animals they care for with love and companionship, but they often lack the financial ability to spay or neuter, provide vaccinations, and basic animal care supplies that we often take for granted.

In the latest Animals’ Voice Pawdcast, Todd Stosuy, Field Services Manager with the Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter describes his work with people experiencing homelessness and how to help them care for their animals.

Community Cats  Retirement Senior
Working cats for hire!

Looking for natural pest control? We have working cats looking for a non-traditional home to live, work and play!

Working cats are not suited to be your typical indoor pets and, as unsocialized animals, they have no desire to be lap cats. They are used to outdoor life, prefer minimal to no human contact, and will happily tend to any mouse, mole, chipmunk, or vermin problems for the small cost of a bowl of cat food and water set out daily, as needed veterinary care and shelter in a garage, stable, warehouse or barn.

All working cats come spayed or neutered, current on vaccinations, microchipped, ear tipped and treated for intestinal worms and external parasites (eg. fleas), AND the adoption fee is waived!
Seniors for Seniors

The Ontario SPCA Provincial Education & Animal Centre formed a unique partnership with Revera Retirement Living by offering their residents the opportunity for a meet-and-greet with some of our animals.

Following an afternoon of socialization with some of our aging cats, a particular Revera resident could not return home without a roommate! Heather Hall, a passionate animal lover and animal welfare advocate was able to provide Rosie, a cuddly Calico, her forever home.

The Ontario SPCA is proud to work with retirement homes that support having the companionship of a pet!

Calling all FUTURE VETS!

Kids are always asking for a pet, but sometimes forget the hard work and responsibility that comes with being a responsible pet guardian. The Ontario SPCA Unleashed Future Vet Program is a great way to learn about pet behaviour, health, and care. Students will have an opportunity to learn about animals in this 5-week program through hands-on experiences and will interact with a variety of animals.

Join us for really fun facts, crafts, guest appearances, and so much more! Limited spots are available and they are filling up quickly! Visit peac.ontariospca.ca/camps for more information and to register!
A Hole – In – One for Animal Welfare!

The 2nd annual Sue Lane Memorial Golf Tournament took place at Bradford Highlands Golf Course on Saturday, August 25th. Greg Lane (son of Sue Lane) along with his wife Alex, mother-in-law Sheila, their dog Wesley and many friends and family members organized this day in memory of Sue who was an avid animal lover. In spite of a rainy day, over 90 participants came out to support the cause and putt for prizes.

This year, the Sue Lane Golf Tournament raised over $4300 for animal welfare! In addition, the Sue Lane Memorial Golf Tournament has become a proud partner of our “Gimme Shelter” program by sponsoring a dog adoption room at the Ontario SPCA Provincial Education & Animal Centre in Stouffville.
