Helping the homeless and their pets

For the most part, homeless pet owners provide the animals they care for with love and companionship, but they often lack the financial ability to spay or neuter, provide vaccinations, and basic animal care supplies that we often take for granted.

In the latest Animals’ Voice Pawdcast, Todd Stosuy, Field Services Manager with the Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter describes his work with people experiencing homelessness and how to help them care for their animals.

A badly fractured leg couldn’t stop this momma

A parent’s love and dedication knows no boundaries - something we witnessed first hand with a special mother cat named Luna.

Luna came into our care after a family spotted her limping through their backyard and discovered her nursing three kittens. Wanting to ensure this feline family got the care they needed, these kind-hearted folks brought Luna and her kittens to the Ontario SPCA. One look at Luna and our staff knew she needed immediate veterinary care.

Zappa finds a place to call home

Zappa was a long term resident at the Ontario SPCA Orangeville & District Animal Centre. In fact, he may have been one of the longest residents waiting for a forever home.

At seven years young, this sweet cat still had lots of bounce to his step and a wonderfully playful personality. We were surprised that Zappa kept getting overlooked, until one day, a lovely family came into the Animal Centre and made an instant connection. It was love at first sight!

That day, Zappa finally went to a place he can call his own! We are thrilled for Zappa and his new family and look forward to hearing all about his adventures.
