Jessie
Helping the homeless and their pets

For the most part, homeless pet owners provide the animals they care for with love and companionship, but they often lack the financial ability to spay or neuter, provide vaccinations, and basic animal care supplies that we often take for granted.

In the latest Animals’ Voice Pawdcast, Todd Stosuy, Field Services Manager with the Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter describes his work with people experiencing homelessness and how to help them care for their animals.
Sweet Jessie is waiting for you!

Meet Jessie! She is a beautiful 5-year-old Rottweiler looking to find a place to call home. This sweet girl is patiently waiting for her perfect match.

Jessie is a little shy at first, but it doesn’t take her long to warm up to you. This girl loves to spend time out in the yard, chasing balls and exploring her surroundings. Jessie is a mature dog who would best be suited for a mature family where she will be the only fur baby.

Come by and meet this lovely girl today!

Calvin

Community support helps dogs like Calvin

Meet Calvin! He is a 2-year-old French Bulldog who has a second chance thanks to the wonderful generosity of our supporters. Calvin came into the care of the Ontario SPCA Orillia Animal Centre through an investigation. He suffered from Brachycephalic airway obstructive syndrome, a condition affecting short nosed dogs which can lead to severe respiratory distress.

Calvin was transported to Newmarket where he received a costly surgery that would ultimately save his life. His procedure was a success and he is now recovering quietly, surrounded by a loving foster family!

The cost of Calvin’s care has exceeded $3500! Please consider giving a special gift to the Ontario SPCA Orillia Animal Centre to help recover some of the cost and help other animals like Calvin get the second chance they deserve.
 A jack of all trades

He hauls litter into the building, shovels snow in the winter, walks the dogs and assists with fundraising events. These are just some of the tasks our volunteer Dominik has taken on over the last year. Whatever is needed, Dominik is always there to lend a helping hand.

Dominik has been an integral part of the volunteer team at the Ontario SPCA Orillia Animal Centre and we appreciate everything he does for both the animals and the staff.

You are a wonderful volunteer Dominik and we THANK YOU!

Thank you for keeping pets out of hot vehicles!

It’s hard to believe another summer has come and gone! We want to thank all of you for participating in our No Hot Pets campaign this year. Together, you’re helping to spread awareness about the dangers of leaving pets unattended in vehicles in the summer heat.

In 2018:
  • Close to 5,000 people took the pledge to show their commitment to not leaving their pet(s) in their vehicles.
  • Hundreds of calls of dogs left in cars were reported to our 310-SPCA (7722) dispatch number.
  • Over 200 businesses joined our pet-friendly business directory.
Thank you for taking the initiative to spread the word about this important message!
