Over 3600 animals adopted through iAdopt for the Holidays

Very few things in life can compare to the unconditional love and companionship given by our animal friends, especially when those friends have been given a second chance through adoption.

iAdopt for the Holidays is a national campaign with the goal of finding homes for as many animals as possible during the holiday season. The 2018 campaign ran from November 1st to December 31st at participating SPCAs, Humane Societies and rescue groups nationwide, seeing over 3600 animals adopted into new, loving families. Such wonderful news!

Although the holidays are now over, there are still many animals waiting to find their forever homes.

Birds
General

Caring for your pet bird during the winter

With Canada’s cold and unpredictable winters, adjusting to our climate can be challenging for exotic birds that are used to hot, tropical climates where there’s little fluctuation in temperature.

However, there are several steps you can take to make sure your feathered friend stays toasty warm and healthy this winter.

How to handle pet’s dry skin

Winter’s hard climate can affect our pets too. Like humans, pets can experience uncomfortable, dry skin during the colder months.

That’s why it’s important you do whatever you can to increase their comfort and help them enjoy this winter season!

The ASPCA has some great tips on dealing with your pet’s dry skin.

Young entrepreneur is making a difference in animal welfare

Declan discovered his passion for animals while participating in one of the Ontario SPCA’s education programs, where he learned the importance of animal enrichment and keeping animals active. One of Declan’s favourite activities was creating “tug toys” out of old t-shirts for our dogs.

Over the past two years, Declan has been making and selling these same toys to family, friends, and even at craft sales with proceeds being donated back to the Ontario SPCA Provincial Education & Animal Centre!

Between his dog toy business and asking for donations instead of presents for his birthday, Declan has donated close to $1000, in addition to some pet care products and a few extra dog toys!  He plans to increase his sales and double his donation in 2019. Thank you Declan for your support!

No poker faces when fundraising for the pooches!

The Ontario SPCA Provincial Education & Animal Centre is saying a BIG THANK YOU to all our 2018 corporate donors who worked together to raise funds or donate items for the animals in our care. It’s because of people and companies who care, that we are able to continue helping animals in need.

Organizations such as Casino Woodbine collected donations and many high-demand items were crossed off our wish list to support the daily care of our animals.

Some corporations collected donations from staff and colleagues, while others reached out to family and friends. Casino Woodbine formed a Proud Fundraising Committee and encouraged their colleagues to purchase an Ontario SPCA holiday pet advent calendar resulting in a donation of over $500. This generous donation will help with much-needed medicines, surgeries and day-to-day care of our Centre animals.

A special thanks to our corporate partners for taking the time to support animal welfare – you truly make a difference!
