Bonded cats patiently wait for their purrfect home
Just look at those faces! Serena and Cara came into the care of the Ontario SPCA Barrie Animal Centre in need of a loving home. A bonded pair, these little sweethearts are looking for a family who has enough love to share with both.
Serena is a loving four-year-old attention seeker. This little character enjoys cuddling and will lay on your lap looking for attention. When she’s not enjoying snuggles, Serena also loves to eat who – doesn’t?!
Cara is seven years old and is more on the shy side. She will need some time to warm up to her new family. With some TLC, we know she will make an amazing friend!
If you’re interested in giving these beautiful girls a caring home together, please contact us at barrie@ontariospca.ca

Paws to say thanks to your veterinary team
Veterinary professionals work hard every day to help keep our pets happy and healthy. It’s time to celebrate and thank them! The Ontario SPCA and Humane Society has partnered with participating SPCAs and humane societies across the province to launch the Veterinary Appreciation Campaign, which runs from June 13-24 in celebration of veterinary professionals.
The Veterinary Appreciation Campaign is a way for pet parents to recognize their local veterinary professionals who give so much. Beginning June 13, show your veterinary team some love by nominating your pet’s veterinary clinic and encourage family and friends to vote to show their support. The veterinary clinic with the most votes will receive a plaque and a complimentary lunch for their staff.
Nominations and voting begin on June 13. Keep an eye out on Monday on our website, and social media channels for more details!

Remembering our furry friends on World Pet Memorial Day
June 14 is World Pet Memorial Day, a day to remember our furry friends who are no longer by our side.
Did you know you can honour your beloved companion (or that of a friend or family member) by making a tribute donation in their memory? You can provide comfort to someone who is grieving by giving them the knowledge an animal in need is being helped in honour of their furry friend. Make a tribute gift.
The Ontario SPCA and Humane Society has also partnered with the Robbie Dean Counselling Centre to present a free, online pet loss support group. The group meets virtually on the second Tuesday of each month from 6:30 to 8 p.m. The sessions are free and are facilitated by a certified grief counsellor. It’s an opportunity to share the feelings and thoughts experienced during the grief journey.

Feeding tips for your new puppy
If you’re thinking of adopting a puppy, or recently welcomed a puppy into your life, Royal Canin shares some basic feeding principles to help your puppy reach their full potential.
First, feeding a diet intended for adult dogs is not recommended. The growth period is an important life stage in which a puppy is still developing in many ways. This includes visible changes like height and weight, as well as invisible changes like sensory, digestive, and immune system development. To support this development, a puppy requires specific nutrition that is adapted to their needs.
Puppies also have higher energy (calorie) needs to support the rapid growth that occurs in the first six to nine months of life. Providing nutrition with an optimal balance of nutrients throughout the growth period plays a key role in helping a puppy reach their full adult potential.

The Provincial Dog Rehabilitation Centre moves closer to completion
The Ontario SPCA Provincial Dog Rehabilitation Centre is beginning to resemble the world-class facility it will be when it opens later this year!
Much has happened at the site in Peterborough. The interior and exterior details are starting to take shape! The masonry work is complete inside and is currently being painted, and epoxy flooring is being applied. Standing inside the main entrance of the 24,000 square foot facility and looking up at the vaulted ceilings, you can imagine animals coming and going from the sun-filled lobby.
HVAC, plumbing, electrical and sprinklers are currently being installed, windows and doors are going in, and siding is beginning to clad the exterior of the building. Planning is also underway on the final grading that will shape the landscaping around the property.
