Save the date, raise funds and get ready to change the lives of animals in need with our Sweat for Pets walk on Saturday, June 3 in Sunnidale Park in Barrie. Registration and check-in begins at 8 a.m.
In addition to the walk, there will be entertainment, vendors and food on site to enjoy! Pets are welcome, but please ensure they are leashed.
Register as an individual or a team at sweatforpets.ca and ask friends and family to pledge their support by donating to your personal fundraising page in support of the Ontario SPCA Barrie Animal Centre.
Sweat for Pets is intended to inspire people of all ages to get active, collect funds and change the lives of animals in our community. Sweat for Pets is a great way to have fun, keep moving and give animals in need a second chance.
The Ontario SPCA is a registered charity that does not receive annual government funding and depends on generous supporters to change the lives of vulnerable animals. Funds raised through Sweat for Pets support life-changing work to give animals in need a second chance.
If you are interested in becoming a sponsor for our Sweat for Pets Walk or have any additional questions, please contact Erin at ebelsher@ontariospca.ca

Join our special events volunteer team
Are you interested in volunteering with the Ontario SPCA Barrie Animal Centre but are not able to commit to a regular role? We have a position for you!
Become part of our Special Events Volunteer team. As a Special Event Volunteer, your role will greatly assist with revenue generation and public awareness in support of the animals in our care, through helping run events and activities throughout the year.
Every event you support has a ripple effect, far beyond the immediate result of your efforts. Your work will have a lasting impact on the care of animals, the community we support, and the programs we offer.
We are currently looking for volunteers to help with our Sweat For Pets Walk on Saturday, June 3.

New wellness clinic helps animals without access to routine vet care
Did you know the Ontario SPCA and Humane Society has launched a new community support service for families without the means to take their animal to a local veterinarian for routine care?
Located within the Ontario SPCA Centre Veterinary Hospital in Stouffville, the new wellness clinic provides non-emergency care to animals who do not currently receive veterinary care. This new wellness clinic will be accessible to families who have been referred through local social services and do not currently have a relationship with a veterinarian.
The clinic provides general wellness examinations, vaccinations and, when necessary and requested by the family, euthanasia services. If the animal requires any additional care, the family will be referred to a local veterinarian for additional treatment. Note: this clinic does not have the capacity to treat ill animals or emergency situations.
We want to keep animals with the families who love them. By working with local social services, we want to reach those who may be struggling to provide routine care to their furry family members.

Are you prepared for an emergency?
If an emergency struck, would you be ready? May is Emergency Preparedness Month and from May 1-13, the Ontario SPCA and the Ontario Association of Fire Chiefs are spreading the important message of having an emergency plan for your family – including your animals.
Visit our Emergency Preparedness page for a list of items to include in your pet`s emergency survival kit, as well as resources on how to develop an emergency preparedness plan and escape plan.
By having the necessary supplies to shelter in place, and a plan to evacuate with your pets, you’ll be prepared for the unexpected and will help ensure you’re able to care for your family and pets during an emergency.

Meet our VIPs available for adoption
Have you met the Ontario SPCA’s VIPs? If you visit our adoption site, you may notice animals with the VIP logo. This stands for Very Important Paws, and these are animals in our care who may need a little extra help. These furry friends are often located at our Provincial Dog Rehabilitation Centre in Peterborough, which is now operational.
Animals with a VIP designation could include a puppy who needs help learning new behaviours and getting acquainted with the world around them, an adolescent dog going through the terrible teens, or an adult buddy who may be unsure of new and difficult changes in their lives.
Feline friends are also a part of the program, as animal centre settings can be a difficult adjustment for cats.
When adopting a VIP animal, our animal centre staff will offer a more individualized care plan, including information sheets and a training and enrichment plan that has been implemented and proven successful. Our goal is to empower new adopters to set their buddies up for a long, happy life.
Meet our VIPs available for adoption, and stay tuned for more information on the official grand opening of the Provincial Dog Rehabilitation Centre.
