Tango

Tango & Krys

For many years, Krys has dreamt of the day when she would have the love and companionship of a horse.

Despite living with Multiple Sclerosis, Krys was determined to find a way to embrace her love of horses and enrich her life through exercise, companionship and opportunities for growth and learning. Krys discovered Tango on our website and it was love at first sight.

"Tango", a former racehorse, was suffering from severe muscle atrophy, a very sore back and asymmetry in his hips. It is believed that he suffered an injury to his pelvis at some point. Coupled with his poor body condition, this resulted in Tango dragging his hind toes when he walked.

After months of treatment, we are thrilled to report that Tango has gained 200 pounds and his muscle tone has greatly improved. He is now sound and comfortable as a companion horse for Krys.

Volunteer Success

The 3rd Annual “Garden Shed Silent Auction & Luncheon” was held Sunday, May 25 at Taboo Golf and Spa in Gravenhurst.

This year’s event was a resounding success, with 115 tickets sold and over 120 fabulous auction items donated. Over $10,000 dollars was raised for animals in need.

The Ontario SPCA Muskoka Animal Centre would like to thank Taboo for sponsoring the event; the food was wonderful, the venue was lovely and a great time was had by all.

We would also like to express our sincere gratitude to our volunteer team who organized the event, to our community friends and partners for donating all the exciting auction items and to those who attended the event.

Please stay tuned to our website for the Bargain Hounds Yard & Bake Sale coming up in July!

Jenga's Tale

"Jenga" is a 12 year old Thoroughbred/Quarter horse type that came into our care through our investigations department.

We recently began schooling Jenga under saddle and it appears that she has been ridden quite a bit in the past. She has proven to be very alert and responsive and focuses very well on her handler/rider.

Jenga has a medium energy level and is a very responsive horse that would be best suited to a confident intermediate rider/handler. She is up to date on vaccinations, worming and dental care.

If you are interested in more information on adopting Jenga or other horses in our care, please contact:

Jane McCamus at 705-645-6225 or via email at jmccamus@ospca.on.ca.

No Hot Pets!

The award-winning No Hot Pets campaign is back!

The Ontario SPCA receives hundreds of reports of pets being left in cars every year.

The Ontario SPCA and Cadillac Fairview are working together with participating shelters across Canada to share the dangers of leaving pets unattended in hot vehicles.

We are asking for your help in sharing this message too. When you take the pledge NOT to leave your pet in your vehicle, you will receive a free No Hot Pets decal in the mail. Take the pledge now!

Check out our collaborative PSA with York Region Police and Toronto Police ServicesSee more by clicking here.

If you see a pet in a hot vehicle, report it! Reporting is as easy as dialing 310-SPCA.

Lets have no hot pets this summer!

Friends For Life! Walk

Tails are wagging all across Ontario as we announce the launch of the 2014 Friends for Life! Walk™ .

The Ontario SPCA Friends for Life! Walk™ is a provincial program of the Ontario SPCA and its Communities, designed to raise funds and awareness for the protection and care of all animals in Ontario.

September 20th and 21st, 2014 is the Friends for
Life! Walk Weekend to Save Pets. Around the province, thousands of walk participants will enjoy a stroll around a park in their community to help raise support for the animals in need across Ontario. Even people without pets can come out to enjoy the day and support this worthwhile cause.
