Meet Thor

A well-behaved young Beagle/Hound mix was found walking in the middle of traffic and was fortunately picked up by a concerned passerby.

After a long, exhaustive search, no owner was located and the dog was brought to the Ontario SPCA Renfrew County Branch. There he was named "Boa".

From the moment the shelter staff met this beautiful dog, they knew he was gentle, loving, and deserved a home that would give him back those same virtues, and that’s exactly what he found!

By chance the Martins stopped in looking for a dog; one that would bring joy and a positive outlook to their family. They found it all in Boa.

Since taking him home, they have renamed him "Thor". His new family says he is doing amazing and they couldn't have asked for a better relationship in a canine companion.

Please visit our website to see all the wonderful animals for adoption.

Volunteer Spotlight

It’s amazing how a perfect photo can make the world of difference in the life of an animal.

We are very fortunate at the Ontario SPCA Renfrew County Branch to have three volunteer photographers who faithfully come in week after week to photograph our many animals and catch their bright unique personalities.

Amanda Grenier is one of our photographers, who first started volunteering for us when she donated her professional photography service to our National Cupcake Day Mad Hatter Tea Party. We were blown away by her wonderfully artistic skills behind the camera and by her bright and cheerful personality.

Amanda has since expanded her volunteering spectrum by taking part in cat enrichment once a week, aside from camera time at the shelter.

Whether she’s enriching or photo editing, Amanda is a delightful addition to our very dedicated volunteer team.

Thank you Amanda, for all your hard work!

Dozer Fundraiser

Dozer's Ride

On Saturday, May 31st, 2014 the Veterans UN-NATO Canada-Upper Ottawa Valley Chapter held a fundraiser called "Dresses for Dozer".

"Dozer" is a five month old American Bulldog who, after coming into our care, required serious surgery after jumping out of the back of a moving truck and breaking his femur.

On a sunny Saturday afternoon, members rode their motorcycles through town to the Ontario SPCA Renfrew County Branch. Several of the male riders wore dresses while making stops along the way to collect donations, wave at the crowds, and recruit other bikers to join them. After their hour long journey, 19 motorcycles and 31 members arrived at the branch outfitted in wigs, feather boas and dresses of all shapes and sizes, as they presented the shelter with a $1555.20 donation!

It was an emotional afternoon as a very happy Dozer and shelter staff were onsite to greet and thank the veterans and friends. The Ontario SPCA Renfrew County Branch hopes to hear the low rumble of approaching motorcycles again in the future!

You can still donate to Dozer and other animals like him at the shelter or online.

No Hot Pets!

The award-winning No Hot Pets campaign is back!

The Ontario SPCA receives hundreds of reports of pets being left in cars every year.

The Ontario SPCA and Cadillac Fairview are working together with participating shelters across Canada to share the dangers of leaving pets unattended in hot vehicles.

We are asking for your help in sharing this message too. When you take the pledge NOT to leave your pet in your vehicle, you will receive a free No Hot Pets decal in the mail. Take the pledge now!

Check out our collaborative PSA with York Region Police and Toronto Police ServicesSee more by clicking here.

If you see a pet in a hot vehicle, report it! Reporting is as easy as dialing 310-SPCA.

Lets have no hot pets this summer!
