Winter

Meet Winter

"Winter" arrived at the Ontario SPCA Provincial Education & Animal Centre in January, and was with us for four months.

Winter came to us bearing a sad story. Our incredible investigations team found 10-year-old Winter tied up outside where his owners had kept him for his entire life. He had neither a proper dog house nor access to fresh water.

Our Animal Welfare Staff quickly fell in love with Winter because of his great personality. Although it did take some time to find a family to adopt him, when the right people arrived, we knew it right away!

Here is what his new family has to say about him:

“Our small dog thinks he has found an older brother! The other day I found both of them on a small two seat sofa in our living room, playing and jumping up and down. We love the new addition to the family! People often stop me on the street to ask about him and remark that he is a handsome dog! I can’t believe he was at the shelter for four months; I guess he was waiting for us".

Please visit our website to see all the wonderful animals for adoption.

AMEX Volunteer Day

On Thursday, May 29th, the Ontario SPCA Provincial Education & Animal Centre was lucky enough to host a large volunteer day at the shelter.

When fifty members from American Express walked through our front door, we were ready! The incredible volunteers came with big smiles and helping hands.

The amazing volunteers completed many tasks that helped our shelter immensely! One group helped us plant a fresh vegetable garden in our back yard. These vegetables will help us prepare fresh meals for all of the small animals that come into our care. Some of the volunteers focused their time on the back of house shelter area. They assisted us in repairs, cleaning and giving the walls a fresh coat of paint. Finally, the “Trail” volunteers helped us in preparing our path for this year’s Friends For Life! Walk.

Everyone’s work ethic was admirable: they did a tip top job and smiled the whole time! Everyone at the Ontario SPCA would like to say a great big thank you to each and every volunteer that came out to help us! We are very grateful, and the animals are too!

Little Fred Needs Help!

When we received this sweet cat into our care, the staff knew he needed our immediate help.

Despite "Little Fred's" pain and his visible injury, he was quietly purring and nudging our our veterinarian technicians. The staff were won over by Fred’s charm and kindness and knew he would make someone a lovely family member one day. But first, we had to help him through his injury.

Various tests, including blood work and x-rays, were run to assess the extent of his injuries. The vet diagnosed him with fractures to his left femoral head. This type of injury required surgery to alleviate the pain that Fred was suffering.

Following his sucessful surgery, Little Fred’s leg is required to be bandaged, so his mobility is now limited while he heals.

Please DONATE NOW to help us fund Little Fred’s medical and recovery costs. It’s with your donations that we can help animals like Little Fred.

No Hot Pets!

The award-winning No Hot Pets campaign is back!

The Ontario SPCA receives hundreds of reports of pets being left in cars every year.

The Ontario SPCA and Cadillac Fairview are working together with participating shelters across Canada to share the dangers of leaving pets unattended in hot vehicles.

We are asking for your help in sharing this message too. When you take the pledge NOT to leave your pet in your vehicle, you will receive a free No Hot Pets decal in the mail. Take the pledge now!

Check out our collaborative PSA with York Region Police and Toronto Police ServicesSee more by clicking here.

If you see a pet in a hot vehicle, report it! Reporting is as easy as dialing 310-SPCA.
