Another Happy Ending

“Bahama” the cat came into the care of the Ontario SPCA Kent Branch  as a stray, found abandoned and covered in filth in a carrier along a walkway by the Thames River.

It’s not clear how long he had been left there, but he was severely dehydrated and in desperate need of hygienic attention.

Following some tender loving care and a brief recovery period, Bahama was placed on the adoption floor and featured in a post on our Facebook page.

A woman named Heather was so touched by his story that she raced to the shelter to meet him, knowing she wanted him to be part of her family forever.

Bahama has now found his happily ever after.

Volunteer Spotlight!

Diane Morrison is one of the Ontario SPCA Kent Branch’s most dedicated volunteers.

Diane lives in Chatham with her husband Burt and their Ragdoll cat, “Cara”.

Diane started volunteering at the Kent Branch over 20 years ago. Her love of animals compelled her to help in any way she could, so she began volunteering at bingo fundraisers and served on the original Board of Directors.

Over the years, Diane has served in various capacities and is currently an office support volunteer, answering calls from the public.

Diane says she looks forward to each day she volunteers as an opportunity to learn more about animal welfare, and is thrilled to be part of the team. We’re thrilled that she is, too!

Students on a Mission

The grade 8 students at St Anne's Catholic School in Blenheim organized an in-school carnival in late April to raise money for charity.

The students dressed up as clowns to entertain the entire school with various booths and activities.

The class then selected three local organizations that meant the most to them, including the Ontario SPCA Kent Branch, and presented cheques for $100 to each.

Thanks to all the class clowns for their charitable initiative!

iAdopt Urgent Appeal a Great Success

Ontario SPCA branches across the province recently experienced a high influx of adult cats in their care so we created an iAdopt Urgent Appeal campaign, asking people to consider adopting an adult cat from their local branch.

From June 20 - July 6, 2014, adult cat adoption fees were reduced to only $50.

We are happy to report that in just over two weeks, 224 adult cats were adopted from our branches, and are now enjoying thier forever homes. Thank you to all those who took part!

Don't Forget Your Pet

The Ontario SPCA and participating shelters across Canada are working together to share the dangers of leaving pets unattended in hot vehicles.

We are asking for your help in sharing this message too. Take the pledge now!

Check out our collaborative PSA with York Region Police and Toronto Police Services.

If you see a pet in a hot vehicle, report it! Reporting is as easy as dialing 310-SPCA.

Lets have no hot pets this summer!
